The 10 Hardest Bosses in Cuphead
5. Captain Brineybeard
Location: Inkwell Isle III
Why? The Captain Brineybeard fight is an especially difficult fight because of the sheer amount of things you need to keep track. There’s the constant threat of the falling barrel; the squid shots; cannonballs from the ship; summons that can be one of three creatures; and a final phase that will easily knock off two hearts in the blink of an eye. Making it to the final phase only to discover the ship has a laser nuke attack really got me salty.
4. Casino + King Dice
Location: Inkwell Hell
Why? The second to last ‘boss battle’ is actually fairly difficult to complete. The fight takes the form of a mini boss rush mode, in which you have to fight, at minimum, three mini-bosses before being able to challenge King Dice. What makes this fight especially hard is the fact that progress resets on death. So every time you wish to challenge King Dice, you need to clear the mini bosses. Couple this mechanic with a rather annoying, parry centric King Dice battle and you have the fourth hardest boss in Cuphead.
3. Rumor Honeybottoms
Location: Inkwell Isle III
Why? Rumor Honeybottoms features two phases that are especially annoying and difficult to complete. The first phase sees Rumor summon in either bullets, two balls, or triangles. The triangles and bullets are both pretty annoying to deal with. The second phase that’s even more annoying then the phase mentioned prior is when you need to aim down at Rumor. This could be a mechanical issue or something, but the combination of having to aim and platform just didn’t work at all for me. I continually fell into the honey below. Out of frustration, I swapped to the Lob shot in order to finish off the fight.
2. Dr Kahl’s Robot
Location: Inkwell Isle III
Why? The third phase of Dr Kahl’s boss fight is probably one of the hardest phases in Cuphead. Seriously. The third phase combines a million projectiles with dodging and having to deal damage. If you are anything like me, many of your runs will have ended in phase three of the Dr Kahl’s Robot boss fight.
1. Grim Matchstick
Location: Inkwell Isle II
Why? If I had to chose one boss that will keep people from completing Cuphead, it’s Grim Matchstick. Grim is a strange combination of platforming and difficult combat. You basically have to know where you next cloud is going to be, then time you jumps to avoid the various projectiles that are sent your way. The second and third phases of this fight also involve shooting to the left while moving to the right, which can be a strange combination to wrap your head around. Pretty much every aspect of the Grim Matchstick boss fight is difficult, and that makes it my number one hardest boss in Cuphead.
Dr.Kahls is so hard. These guys are liars!
I finished the bee on my second attempt using the Chaser, and I’m not even good.
I would personally put the genie on this list as well, most likely in replacement of Hilda.
Interesting. I found I had more trouble with Hilda over the genie (personally).
The grim matchstick only took me a few tries the bouncing ball at the beginning took me around 70
Um… am i normal? i think that i spent more time on the bird than did on the robot. idk why it seems that way. im have to kill the be again because i did it in easy. any tips
I think that’s pretty normal. The robot is all about master the first phase and third phase, while the bird is all about the third phase. If you want some tips, read up on my boss list. Thanks for reading!
Dr.kahls robot was the hardest boss for me in Cuphead. Seriously I had to skip that boss beat king dice and the devil go back and beat the boss.
Dr Kahl is super hard. Both phase 1 and 3 are such pains to deal with. I respect you beating the game and coming back to it
Dr.kahls robot was the hardest boss for me. Seriously I had to skip that one complete the game and go back to beat him.
