Stardew Valley Trout Derby Festival Explained
In Stardew Valley 1.6 ConcernedApe added a new mini-festival to the game called the Trout Derby. This mini-festival allows players to catch Rainbow Trout over the course of a weekend to earn rewards. To learn all you need to know about the Stardew Valley Trout Derby festival, read our guide below.
When and Where is the Trout Derby in Stardew Valley
The Trout Derby takes place during the Summer specifically on the 20 & 21 between 6:10am-2:00am. You will receive a notification when the event begins on the 20th. During these two days, a fisherman sets up a tent along the north bank of the river in the Cindersnap Forest area. Next to this tent is a large sign that reads “The Annual Trout Derby”, making it fairly hard to miss.
It’s important to note that because this is a mini-festival, the town remains open. Non-villagers participate in the event, so all the Villagers maintain their normal schedules and the shops remain open for business.
What to Do in the Trout Derby in Stardew Valley
During the Trout Derby, players fish in the River to try and catch Rainbow Trout. Catching one of these fish or a Treasure Chest alongside the fish may yield a special Golden Tag. If you receive a Golden Tag, you can give it to the fisherman in the tent to receive a reward.
Trout Derby Rewards
When you hand in a Golden Tag to the Fisherman you will receive a random reward from him. The possible rewards from the Trout Derby the player can receive are all listed below:
- Bucket Hat
- Tent Kit
- Crab Pot
- Mystery Boxes
- Diamonds
- Mounted Trout (Furniture)
- Deluxe Bait
- Triple Shot Espresso
- Quality Sprinkler
- Warp Totems
- Omni Geodes
To improve your odds of catching Rainbow Trout, you can use various fishing buffs. This means you can do things like eat fishing enhancing meals, use Deluxe or Rainbow Trout Bait, use the Sonar Bobber, and so on to increase your chances of catching a lot of fish over the two days.
Like other events the Trout Derby runs every year. This means you can earn all of the available rewards over the course of multiple years. Never forget there is always next year if you don’t succeed.
This is just one of multiple new additions to Stardew Valley that were added in Update 1.6. A major new addition is the inclusion of Masteries which can be used to unlock better endgame items & perks. Check out our Mastery guide for details on that system. There is also another mini-festival to participate in called SquidFest.
