Inside The Wall Guide (Chapter 1) – Stray

The first chapter of Stray is called Inside The Wall. This section serves as the game’s tutorial and introduces you to a variety of gameplay mechanics. The events at the end of this chapter kickoff the game’s main story, placing you in the Dead City. To help you complete this section use our Stray Inside the Wall guide below.

Play With Stray’s Friends and Then Sleep

When you start the game you will be inside an alcove in the wall. After the game establishes the location you will gain control of Stray. Walk forward and interact individually with the three other cats in your crew. Once this is done they will lie down on the ground on some cardboard. Curl up with them to go to sleep.

Into the Dead City (Tutorial)

After you go to sleep you will trigger a cutscene showing time has passed and it is now the next day. Stray and the other cats will set out down the wall to the lower section below. This starts the games tutorial section. I wont go into much detail for this section since it is fairly linear. All you need to do is walk forward and complete the tutorial prompts as they appear. I will however highlight two moments during the tutorial to be aware of.

1. Tree You Can Scratch

If you are going for all trophies/achievements in the game you will want to scratch the tree in Chapter 1. This tree is located at the top of the second wall you jump up (the one with two barrels beside it). Scratch this tree when you encounter it to gain progress towards the Territory [1/12] trophy/achievement.

2. The Missed Jump

At the end of the chapter you will go under a large wall and will enter an area with two steel beams you jump down to reach the platform below. When you land on the platform below you will trigger a cutscene. During this cutscene the pipe breaks and Stray falls down into the pit below. This is supposed to happen and you earn the Missed Jump trophy achievement.

Following the cutscene you will take control of Stray in a lower section. Stray is hurt so you limp along. Walk forward until Stray collapses and a cutscene triggers. During this cutscene a door opens. You then regain control of Stray. Go through the door shown in the cutscene to start Chapter 2: Dead City.
