False Swipe is a very important TM in the Pokemon universe. This TM teaches Pokemon a move that allows you to hit Pokemon, but never cause them to faint. This is an especially useful move for catching Pokemon since you can lower their HP to 1, making catching easier. If you are looking for the for this TM for yourself this guide will help. Below I walk you through everything you need to know about the False Swipe TM in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Where to Get the False Swipe TM?

Jacq in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet.
Jacq tasks the Trainer to fill their Pokedex with Pokemon species to get rewards.

False Swipe (TM057) can be acquired fairly easily in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet. The Biology teacher at Naranja/Uva Academy school, Jacq, tasks players with filling up the Paldea Pokedex. At certain milestones of Pokedex entries the professor gives you certain rewards. The first of these rewards is the False Swipe (TM057) when you’ve caught 30 Pokemon. Return and speak to Jacq in the Biology Lab to receive this technical machine.

How to Craft False Swipe TM?

Once you’ve received the False Swipe TM you are able to make more of it using the game’s TM system. Like other TMs in the game you need to gather Pokemon materials to make it. The recipe for the False Swipe TM is:

  • 3x Chewtle Claws.
  • 2x Kricketout Shells.
  • 400 League Points.

After you’ve gotten all of the items listed above simply go to any Pokecenter and use the Green TM Machine there to craft as many of the False Swipe TMs as you’d like. Keep in mind that they are one time use only items.

Which Pokemon Should You Teach False Swipe To?

Once you have the TM you may be wondering what the best Pokemon is to teach False Swipe to. The answer to this is debatable as there is no really set Pokemon that benefits from having this move. With that said a good rule is to teach False Swipe to a Pokemon that can also cause Status Effects like sleep or paralysis. This gives you the perfect one, two punch for Pokemon catching since you can lower their health to 1 HP and put a status effect on them. An example of a Pokemon that I described is someone like Breloom which can learn Spore which puts Pokemon to sleep.

There are other important items players should be aware of in the game. These items will help you on your Pokemon journey. See how to get the Amulet Coin, the Bottle Caps and Gold Bottle Caps, and Sweet Herba Mystica in our guides.
