The spooky season is upon us and with it comes a deluge of horror games for players to experience. Among the heap of releases a two-person development team has created a horror experience where players must start over if they scream. This experience, called Don’t Scream, now has a release date, and it is frighteningly soon.

Developed by Joure & Joe, Don’t Scream unleashes a first-person horror found-footage style adventure created in Unreal Engine 5. The twist? Screaming into your microphone while playing the game triggers a reset.

Don’t Scream Game Details

Further details regarding the experience have been provided by the developers as a before buying warning. The developers describe the experience on the game’s Steam page as:

This is a short horror experience designed to make players jump. Think of it as a scare simulator. Don’t expect a storyline; just one primary challenge: DON’T SCREAM. It’s simple enough for anyone, even your mom. Seriously, challenge your mom to play!

If you scream, you restart. DON’T SCREAM is an Unreal Engine 5 short horror experience inspired by ’90s camcorder found footage. Made by two indie devs. The challenge is simple: explore the mysterious Pineview Forest for 18 minutes without screaming.

Sounds easy, right? But there’s a catch. Time only progresses as you move, and you cannot predict the scares. You must calibrate your microphone in-game so that every whimper, jump, or even a minor squeak is registered as a scream, increasing the challenge. With dozens of dynamic scares, each playthrough offers a unique experience.

It’s the perfect game to scare the pants off your friends and family. Our lead playtester (also my wife) is currently in a clinic recovering.

If you remain unconvinced after all this information, don’t miss the Don’t Scream launch trailer. It offers a glimpse into the overall experience and player expectations.

The developers are actively engaging with social influencers, suggesting an upcoming surge of content from this title across your social media feeds.

With its straightforward yet thrilling concept, Don’t Scream promises to be the ideal Halloween delight for players and their companions. Early access is scheduled for October 27, 2023, on Steam. You can Wishlist the game now if you want.

Since Don’t Scream is an early access title, the experience remains unfinished. The developers have a roadmap for development, which includes introducing dynamic scares, expanding the game lore, adding optional objectives, and optimizing the game.
