There are a wide range of indie titles to be aware of coming out this month, with a good mix of genres on offer. Let’s take a closer look at the major January 2024 Indie Game release dates you should know below.

Close to the Sun (Xbox Game Pass) – January 3

While not a new release, Close to the Sun is making its way to Xbox’s Game Pass this month on January 3. This first-person adventure title came out back in 2019. In it players take on the role of Rose Archer who boards the Tesla’s Helios, a utopia for scientific research in search of clues regarding the disappearance of her sister.

The game, when it released, garnered mixed reviews around the 5.5/10 mark. If you already have game pass it is included with the service, making it a cost effective way to snag an indie title you might have missed.

Momodora: Moonlit Farewell (PC) – January 11

The Momodora series welcomes a new installment, Momodora: Moonlit Farewell, on January 11. Players reprise the role of Momo, the High Priestess of Koho village. Momo embarks on an adventure to save her village from demon hordes summoned by a malevolent bellringer.

Bombservice has confirmed this is a concluding story following the events of Momodora 3. Knowledge of the story is not necessary, as the developers emphasize that players without prior experience of the games can easily pick up and play this stylish action-adventure platformer.

Turnip Boy Robs a Bank (PC, Xbox, Switch) – January 18

Back in 2021, Snoozy Kazoo released a fun little indie game called Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion. This cheeky RPG followed the adventures of Turnip Boy as he attempted to commit tax evasion. Now a couple years later the titular character is back in Turnip Boy Robs a Bank.

In Turnip Boy Robs a Bank, the sequel shakes things up with a top-down roguelike experience. Each run tasks you with entering a bank and stealing as much money as possible. Successful runs earn you cash, enabling the purchase of upgrades and tools from the dark web. These, in turn, help you delve deeper into the bank where more money awaits.

This title is slated to come to Xbox Game Pass day one, so keep that in mind if you want to play it on Xbox.

Enshrouded (Early Access) – January 24

Enshrouded stands out as the most significant indie game of the month, gaining widespread attention with its demo being the most played and the title accumulating the most wishlists during the Steam Next Fest in October.

This co-op survival action RPG supports up to 16 players, offering a vast world to explore, bases to build, enemies and bosses to combat, and resources to gather.

When it does release on January 24, Enshrouded be entering Steam Early Access on PC.
