ConcernedApe, creator of the beloved Stardew Valley, has shared an update on his highly anticipated game, Haunted Chocolatier. Fans have noticed fewer updates lately, and now ConcernedApe explains why.
In a recent blog post, ConcernedApe revealed that much of his time has been spent on the Stardew Valley 1.6 update. What started as a technical update to improve modding tools turned into a massive content expansion. This unexpected shift required more attention than initially planned.
After the PC release of the update, ConcernedApe focused on fixing bugs, porting it to mobile and consoles, and handling other tasks. This work temporarily took his attention away from Haunted Chocolatier.
Why Haunted Chocolatier Is Taking Longer
Even with these delays, ConcernedApe remains dedicated to Haunted Chocolatier. He called the game a “special place” in his creative journey. Before shifting to Stardew Valley 1.6, he completed a “vertical slice” of Haunted Chocolatier. This prototype included most of the core systems, but the game still needs a lot of work to refine and expand its content.
ConcernedApe is developing Haunted Chocolatier solo, just like he did with Stardew Valley. He’s building the game from scratch using C#. While he may seek help later, he prefers to work independently until the game is more advanced.
He reassured fans that the wait will be worth it. Like Stardew Valley, Haunted Chocolatier will not feature early access, crowdfunding, or pre-orders. The game will only launch when it is fully complete and polished.
Despite slower updates, ConcernedApe continues to make progress. He stressed that Haunted Chocolatier will be released “when it’s ready” and that he prefers to work quietly until he has something significant to share.
