Gem-Bird Puzzle Guide – Stardew Valley

On Ginger Island in Stardew Valley there are a number of puzzles for players to complete. One of these puzzles can be found in the jungle area. This puzzle features four birds and corresponding statues. To complete this puzzle is a bit convoluted. To make your life easier I’ve put together the Gem-Bird Puzzle Ginger Island guide below. Use it to make solving the puzzle a non-issue.

Go through trees to the right of Leo’s house to find Gem Bird puzzle.

The bird puzzle can be found on the eastside of the island in the area where Leo’s treehouse is located. Head to the right in the trees to reach a second area that has the puzzle in it. In this area you will find four pedestals and a statue. Read the statue to learn the puzzle.

Statue Text: ” When dark clouds cry, begin your quest. To seek the fabled gem-birds four. Each day, one north, south, east, or west. Arrange their gifts upon my door.

How to Solve the Bird Puzzle on Ginger Island

While the wording of this puzzle is a bit confusing the actual puzzle itself is pretty simple. Every time it rains on Ginger Island a bird appears in either the north, south, east, or west sections of the island. Each bird will be the color of a gem and will drop that specific gem. When you encounter one of these birds jot down its location and the gem it dropped as seen in the example below (your game will be different as the birds are randomized).

  • North: Aquamarine.
  • West: Ruby.
  • South: Emerald.
  • East: Topaz.

Once you have all four gems place them in the corresponding pedestals depending on the location you found them. If done correctly you will receive 5 Golden Walnuts for your efforts. That’s all there is to completing this puzzle. Unfortunately you can only complete this puzzle once.

I screwed up and cant remember which gem I got where. Will it still work if I keep swopping gems and try out all the possible scenarios?

I don’t seem to be able to place gems on the pedestals at all. I was able to before and now I can’t. I haven’t solved the puzzle yet, I was missing one more, and when I went back to place it the others were gone and now I can’t place anything. Anyone else have this issue?

  4. Lilliana says:

The gem birds cycle through every day it rains, even after the puzzle is solved. If you accidentally sold the gem, don’t worry! The bird will cycle back through eventually.

  5. Lori says:

can you use any gems or only the gems dropped by the birds?

    • Zakry says:

You can use any gem, even ones not dropped by the birds. Amethyst, Aquamarine, Emerald, Ruby, Topaz are the 5 possible gems. You don’t even need to find all the birds, you can randomly place those gems on the pedestals until you solve the puzzle if you wanted to.

  6. Jake says:

Is there anyway to reset it if you messed up as I sold one of the gems and now idk what the bird dropped?

  7. Steph S says:

I think the puzzle is randomised, my combination was N: Topaz E: Emerald, S: Amethyst, W: Aquamarine
