Where to Catch Stakataka/Blacephalon in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon

After becoming the Alola Champion, you’ll hear about the Ultra Beasts that are causing chaos in the Alola region. Your journey to capture them begins in Poni Meadows, but your specific destination for Blacephalon (Ultra Sun) or Stakataka (Ultra Moon) will be Poni Grove.
Where to Find Blacephalon/Stakataka
Blacephalon is exclusive to Ultra Sun, while Stakataka is exclusive to Ultra Moon. To find these Ultra Beasts, head to Poni Grove on Poni Island after you’ve completed the main story and the Elite Four challenge.
Once you enter Poni Grove, you’ll meet the Ultra Recon Squad who will offer you Beast Balls, a special type of Poké Ball designed for catching Ultra Beasts. From there, simply run around the tall grass in Poni Grove to trigger a battle with Blacephalon (in Ultra Sun) or Stakataka (in Ultra Moon). The Ultra Beast will appear randomly, so be patient and keep searching!
Tips for Catching Blacephalon/Stakataka
Catching Ultra Beasts can be tricky, so follow these tips to increase your chances:
- Save Before the Battle: Before engaging Blacephalon or Stakataka, make sure to save your game. This will allow you to reset the encounter if you accidentally knock out the Ultra Beast or if you need more chances to catch it.
- Use Beast Balls: Beast Balls have a higher catch rate for Ultra Beasts compared to regular Poké Balls. Be sure to use them right away, as they are specifically designed for this task.
- Status Effects: Try to induce status effects like sleep or paralysis on Blacephalon/Stakataka. This will make them easier to capture.
- False Swipe: Bring a Pokémon with the move False Swipe. This move leaves the Ultra Beast with 1 HP, making it much easier to catch without accidentally fainting it.
Additional Tips
- Blacephalon is a Fire/Ghost-type in Ultra Sun, while Stakataka is a Rock/Steel-type in Ultra Moon. Each Ultra Beast has its unique strengths and weaknesses, so tailor your strategy accordingly.
- If you’re having trouble catching the Ultra Beast, try using Quick Balls at the start of the battle for an additional chance at an early capture.
