Starfield Mantis Quest Guide: How to Get Armor and Razorleaf Ship

The Mantis quest in Starfield is one of the best early-game missions. Completing this questline rewards you with the Legendary Mantis Armor Set and the powerful Razorleaf Ship. Both of these items are great additions to your arsenal, especially early on. Follow our guide below to learn how to start and complete the Mantis quest in Starfield.

Step 1: Find the “Secret Outpost” Note on a Dead Spacer

To begin the Mantis quest, you need to find a note titled “Secret Outpost” on a dead Spacer. This note can drop randomly from any Spacer enemy, so it’s important to loot every Spacer you come across during your exploration.

Eventually, one of them will have the note. Once you loot it, open your inventory and read the slate to officially start the Mantis quest and get your first objective.

Step 2: Travel to the Secret Outpost on Denebola I-B

After reading the note, your next objective is to travel to the secret outpost on Denebola I-B. Set course for the Denebola System and land on the planet’s surface at the outpost location. Once you’ve landed, follow the quest markers as you make your way through the outpost.

As you explore the outpost, you’ll eventually meet an NPC named Livvey, who warns you about a dangerous room filled with turrets. This room contains a puzzle that you’ll need to solve to proceed further.

Step 3: How to Solve the Mantis Floor Puzzle

To solve the floor puzzle, you need to find an audio log titled “Leon Voclain – Sic Semper Tyrannis” on a dead Spacer nearby. The title of this log contains the key to the puzzle—Tyrannis.

When you enter the puzzle room, you’ll notice a series of black floor tiles. Stepping on the wrong tile will activate the turrets, so you must step on the tiles in the correct order to safely reach the other side. The correct path is to step on the tiles in this sequence: T-Y-R-A-N-N-I-S.

After crossing the room, press the button next to the locked gate to open it. Continue through the next area and follow the path until you reach the Lair of the Mantis.

Once inside the Lair of the Mantis, you’ll need to deal with a number of hostile robots. Take them out and continue following the quest markers to reach two main objectives: the Mantis Armor Set and the Razorleaf Ship.

Step 4: Take the Legendary Mantis Armor Set

Make your way to the marker for the Mantis Armor and take it from the display case. This legendary set significantly boosts your combat effectiveness early in the game. It consists of four pieces: Helmet, Spacesuit, Boost Pack, and Pack, each providing powerful stats and unique perks.

• Mantis Spacesuit:
  • Physical/Energy Resistance: 85
  • EM Resistance: 30
  • Perks: Enhances stealth and damage resistance, ideal for surviving encounters.
• Mantis Helmet:
  • Physical/Energy Resistance: 40
  • EM Resistance: 15
  • Perks: Improves oxygen efficiency for longer survival in hostile environments.
• Mantis Boost Pack:
  • Physical/Energy Resistance: 50
  • EM Resistance: 25
  • Perks: Increases mobility with better boost capacity and recharge rate.
• Mantis Pack:
  • Physical/Energy Resistance: 40
  • EM Resistance: 10
  • Perks: Expands carry weight, allowing for more loot without over-encumbering.

With the Mantis Armor equipped, you’ll gain enhanced defense and stealth capabilities, making you more formidable in combat and better prepared for tougher challenges.

Step 5: Unlock the Razorleaf Ship

Next, head to the marker for the Razorleaf Ship. To access the ship, you’ll need to activate a switch to raise it up from its hidden dock. After the ship is lifted, leave the outpost and head to the launchpad where the Razorleaf is docked.

Once aboard, climb the ladder to the top of the ship. Here, you’ll find several items, including weapons and loot. With the Razorleaf ship in your possession, you’re now ready to explore the galaxy with a powerful new vessel at your command.

Completing the Mantis quest not only gives you a fantastic armor set and a ship but also a sense of accomplishment early in the game. Make sure to fully explore the outpost and loot everything you can, as there are plenty of rewards scattered throughout the area.
