After completing the Wela Volcano trial, your next challenge in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon takes you to Lush Jungle. Led by Trial Captain Mallow, this Lush Jungle Trial guide focuses on gathering ingredients to prepare a dish that will summon the Totem Pokémon. Below, we’ll guide you step by step on how to find each ingredient, defeat Totem Lurantis, and complete this trial with ease.
How to Start the Lush Jungle Trial
Lush Jungle is located off Route 8 on Akala Island. Before starting the trial, be sure to visit the nearby Pokémon Center to heal your team and prepare items. Since this trial features Grass-type Pokémon, it’s recommended to bring Fire, Flying, Poison, Bug, or Ice-type Pokémon to counter their strengths.
When you’re ready, speak to Captain Mallow at the trial entrance, and she’ll instruct you to gather three specific ingredients hidden throughout the jungle.
Where to Find the Ingredients
You’ll need to locate the following ingredients:
- Mago Berry – Found on the northern side of Lush Jungle near a cluster of trees.
- Honey – Located near some large flowers in the middle of the jungle.
- Big Root – Found at the base of a giant tree toward the southeastern area.
Ingredient Collection Challenges
Each time you collect an ingredient, a wild Pokémon will ambush you:
- Mago Berry → Fomantis (Grass-type)
- Honey → Comfey (Fairy/Grass-type)
- Big Root → Sudowoodo (Rock-type)
Defeat these Pokémon to continue gathering ingredients. Once you have all three, return to Mallow to begin the final phase of the trial.
How to Defeat Totem Lurantis
Once the ingredients are combined, Totem Lurantis will appear. Lurantis is a Grass-type Pokémon that can call allies, making this battle more difficult if not approached strategically.
Totem Lurantis Stats & Abilities:
- Level: 24
- Ability: Leaf Guard (Prevents status effects in sunny weather)
- Held Item: Power Herb (Allows Solar Blade to charge instantly)
Recommended Strategy:
- Use Fire, Flying, Poison, Bug, or Ice-type moves for maximum damage.
- Fire-types are especially effective—using Firium Z on a Fire Pokémon can help end the battle quickly.
- Lurantis may summon Castform to change the weather to sunlight, making its Solar Blade move instant and more powerful. Take down Castform as soon as possible.
- If you have a Pokémon with status moves (Sleep, Paralysis), they can slow Lurantis down.
After defeating Totem Lurantis, you will receive the Grassium Z, a Grass-type Z-Move Crystal. You will also gain access to new items and Pokémon encounters in Lush Jungle. Additionally, a cutscene featuring Captain Mallow and the other Trial Captains will play.
With all Akala Island trials now complete, your next challenge is to face the Island Kahuna.

you mentioned fire twice.
Thanks. I’ll update this!
So according to the PokeDex, you can find a Larvesta in Lush Jungle. Is this true, and is it in a certain area?
lurantis is a pure grass type, not a bug fairy type.
Thanks! I’ve updated the guide.
