Odogaron Guide: Monster Weakness, Carves & Rewards, Armor Sets – Monster Hunter World
Once you’ve rid both the Coral Highlands and Rotten Vale of their monsters, you will be able to venture deeper into the Rotten Vale. Along the journey, you will be introduced to Odogaron, a fast, fanged wyvern who is intent on eating you and your handler. To progress the story, you will need to slay this beast. Storyline Quest: Into the Bowels of the ValeReward Money: 5400 z
Hunting Quest Text: “Certain death awaits you in the depths, but so does the key to finding Zorah Magdros. A fair trade-off if you ask me.”
Characteristics: A terrifying monster that scours the Rotten Vale for carrion. Its highly aggressive nature means that anything, be it monster or man, is a potential meal.
Useful Information: Odogaron’s nasty claws cause heavy bleeding and should be avoided at all costs. Use meat to lure it into traps, stagger it, or coerce it into bouts of rage to tire it out and make it easier to deal with.
Odogaron Fight Guide
Main Fight Mechanic: Roar + Bleeding (status effect)
Roar: Large monsters have the ability to roar. This ability disrupts whatever action the hunter was doing (stun locks you briefly). There’s not much you can do about it in the early game (you’ll get better armor perks later).
Bleed: Odogaron is able to cause the bleed status effect to hunters with a couple of its attacks (claw related). This status effect causes the health bar to turn red and slowly drain. You can use Astera Jerky or crouch for about 10 seconds to cure this ailment.
Attacks:
Odogaron is incredibly mobile which makes this fight especially tough. Here’s its attack kite:
*I attempted to grab all the attacks I saw. Let me know if I missed some in The Pit.
- Jump – Jump attack/gap closer.
- Smash – Rears up on hind legs and comes crashing down to the ground in front of it.
- Front claw swipe – Has a typical claw strike for close distance combat.
- Tailwhip – Can use a tailwhip attack when near the back of the monster.
- Lunge + Bite – Variant on the Lunge attack. Winds up to bite and lunges towards you.
- Lunge + Swipe – Lunge swipe attack when near face.
- Leap Strike + Return – Leaps towards you for a strike and then jumps back to starting position.
- Wall Jump – Jumps on Wall and Jump towards the hunter (similar to Tobi)
Battle Tips:
Odogaron can be a tough fight, especially if you wield some of the slower weaponry, as the creature is incredibly fast. Couple its speed with the ability to chain moves quickly and bleed, and you have a recipe for defeat. With that being said there are a few tips I can give you.
- First things first, bring a number of traps along with you and use them. Any chance you have of slowing Ogdoran down should be taken.
- Adopt a hit and run strategy. With bigger monsters, it’s easy to sit close and deal damage. For Odogaron, you’ll want to get in and get out as quickly as possible.
- Wait for it to tire out after a combo string and deal damage in the open window it presents.
- Carry Astera Jerky on your hunter. This can be used to heal the bleeding effect.
Let me know other tips in the comments and I will add them.
