Leveling up in Cyberpunk 2077 is crucial for thriving in Night City’s treacherous world, where power and survival go hand in hand. Whether you’re a stealthy netrunner, a tech-savvy engineer, or a guns-blazing solo, increasing your character’s level is essential for unlocking new abilities, enhancing your attributes, and conquering the many challenges that lie ahead. In this comprehensive guide, we’ll walk you through how to level-up in Cyberpunk 2077.

Earn XP to Unlock Perks and Attribute Points

Similar to a well-crafted RPG, Cyberpunk 2077 requires you to accumulate experience through engagement in a diverse range of in-game activities. This accrued experience serves as the currency for acquiring Perks and Attribute Points, enabling you to enhance your character, V, and create specialized character builds. These activities, which yield experience, encompass:

  1. Completing Main and Side Quests: The primary storyline and side quests are substantial sources of XP. They not only advance the narrative but also allow you to delve into Night City’s rich lore and interact with its diverse characters.
  2. Engaging in Combat: Combat encounters, whether against hostile gangs, corporate security, or other foes, provide XP for overcoming challenges. You’ll earn XP as you defeat enemies, with bonus points for taking on adversaries more formidable than yourself.
  3. Hacking and Netrunning: For tech-savvy players, hacking and netrunning offer a different avenue for gaining XP. Successfully breaching security systems, hacking into devices, and manipulating enemy cyberware all contribute to your character’s growth.
  4. Random Encounters: Exploring the bustling streets of Night City can lead to random encounters, often involving unique situations, characters, or even crimes in progress. These encounters reward XP and add depth to your Cyberpunk 2077 experience.

Accumulating XP is essential for leveling up, which in turn grants Attribute Points and Perk Points to enhance your character’s abilities and tailor your playstyle. Carefully balancing these activities can help you create a V that excels in your chosen skillset and makes your journey through Night City even more engaging.

Levelling Attributes and Perks

As you progress and accumulate experience, you’ll unlock both Attribute and Perk Points in Cyberpunk 2077. You can invest these valuable points in the Character menu, accessing enhancements and upgrades for your character, V.. These upgrades are organized into six distinct categories for your convenience:

  1. Body.
  2. Reflexes.
  3. Technical Ability.
  4. Intelligence.
  5. Cool.
  6. Relic (added in Phantom Liberty DLC).

Within each of these attribute categories, you’ll find a collection of both Attributes and Perks available for purchase. To unlock higher-tier Attributes within a specific category, players must first acquire Perks associated with that category. These Perks serve as prerequisites, enabling access to the more advanced Attributes found within the same Attribute category.

As you progress through Night City, your character, V, undergoes significant development with each level-up, providing an opportunity to create a personalized character build. Therefore, make thoughtful decisions when investing your attribute and perk points to maximize your gameplay experience.

If you find yourself dissatisfied with your V’s current setup, rest assured that there is now a method to respec your character’s Attributes and Perks, courtesy of the 2.0 update.
