How to Kill the Snake in Sekiro Shadows Die Twice

Access New Area and Kill the Snake

As you traverse the world of Sekiro Shadows Die Twice you will encounter a giant snake. This snake makes platforming a few spots a bit tricky and, in FromSoftware fashion, can be killed. Below I will show you how to to kill the snake in Sekiro Shadows Die Twice.

Important: The snake will not appear in the spot mentioned below if you have not encountered it in Sunken Valley when it breaks the bridge. Keep this in mind.

Progress the Story so you Get the Mortal Blade

Receive Mortal Blade from Divine Child of Rejuvenation

The first thing you need to do is progress the story up to the point of receiving the Mortal Blade. To do this you need to defeat bosses Genichiro on top of the Ashina Castle and the Screen Monkeys in the Hall of Illusions. Once both of these bosses are defeated, you will gain access to the Inner Sanctum and the Mortal Blade. Alongside the blade you will receive a skill called Puppeteer Ninjutsu (can be equipped by pressing start > Ninjutsu). Once you have this ability, make your way to the Senpou Temple, Mt. Kongo Sculptor’s Idol.

Raise the Kite to Access New Area

From the Sculptor leave through the open door and head down the mountain. You should see a monkey on a bridge to your right. Go to the area below this to find a “rat” enemy standing by the controls of the kite. Sneak up and backstab the rat and tap r1/rb again to turn it into a puppet. It will run over and raise the kite permanently.

Use Kite to Reach Snake

Now that the kite is raised, make your way up to first temple with the three monks praying to the corpse inside it. Go out through the open window and look for the huge tree in the center of this area. Make your way to the top of the tree using your grappling hook so you are facing the kite. Hookshot to the kite to get slung across the valley. Once on the other side of the valley, you can travel along the cliffside using a combination of jumping and hookshotting. Eventually you will reach a platform with a cave and a Sculptor’s Idol in it. Go through the cave to reach a ledge above the snake.

If you played Dark Souls 3 you will immediately be familiar with this attack setup. You are high above the snake and should plunge attack down onto it. Once you’ve plunged attacked, you will follow it up with a second deathblow. This will kill the snake. Pretty easy.

Access New Area and Kill the Snake

For killing the snake you will receive the Fresh Serpent Viscera item and a Trophy/Achievement. This item has the following description:

“The persimmon-like heart of a Great Serpent. The Great Serpent is considered to be a god of the land, and the heart is believed to be where one’s spirit resides. While its shape bears similarity to a persimmon, in fact this is the red viscern of a god. It is safe to assume that eating it would be poisonous to one’s health. “

That’s all there is to it. Once the snake is dead you are free to explore areas to your hearts extent without being constantly bombarded by a giant god-snek.

There are several items there, the best one being a dragon blood droplet. Also if I remember correctly, a bundled jizo statue and a balloon of souls.

Yup… That stupid bridge looks solid but you fall right through it. And there’s an item over there I will never have now.

Does anyone know how to get back to that area where you land once you kill the snek? I accidentally fell down the broken ladder into the lake and now I can’t get back up there.
