Owl.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice offers players multiple endings, each providing a unique conclusion to the story. Among these, the Immortal Severance ending is one of the more straightforward ones to achieve. Here’s a complete guide to help you unlock this ending.

Important Note

The Immortal Severance ending is one of the primary outcomes in Sekiro. It represents the typical way to finish the game and is considered one of the main story conclusions. To unlock it, you’ll only need to make one key decision during the final stages of the game.

Trigger: Speaking with Owl at the Top of Ashina Castle

  1. Progress the Story Until You Collect the Lotus of the Palace
Continue playing through the story until you acquire the Lotus of the Palace, which is obtained after defeating the Guardian Ape. Once you’ve obtained the Lotus, Ashina Castle becomes inaccessible, and you must access the castle via the Abandoned Dungeon Entrance Sculptor’s Idol.
  2. Head to Ashina Castle
Proceed to the top of Ashina Castle, where you previously fought Genichiro Ashina. Here, you’ll trigger a cutscene with Owl and Kuro. This scene presents you with a crucial decision that will affect which ending you will unlock.
  3. Make Your Decision
Owl will offer you two main choices:
    • Obey the Iron Code, forsake Kuro (Shura Ending). Break the Iron Code, stay loyal to Kuro (Immortal Severance Ending, Purification Ending, Return Ending).
To unlock the Immortal Severance ending, choose to break the Iron Code and stay loyal to Kuro.
  4. Fight and Defeat Owl
After choosing to stay loyal to Kuro, you will be forced to fight Owl—your father. This boss fight is a pivotal moment in the game. Defeat Owl to progress through the story.
  5. Reach the Final Boss
Once you defeat Owl, continue progressing through the game, eventually facing the final boss. Upon defeating this final boss, the Immortal Severance ending will be triggered, and you will earn the corresponding achievement.

If you want to experience all of Sekiro’s endings, back up your save before making this choice. This way, you can reload it later to unlock the other endings, such as Shura, Purification, and Return.
