The 1.4 update for Stardew Valley introduced a variety of exciting changes, including new buildings, items, and even the ability to change your pet’s breed. Whether you want to customize your furry friend or switch up your pet’s appearance in an already-started game, this guide will walk you through how to change pet breed in Stardew Valley.

Selecting Pet Breed in a New Game

When starting a new game in Stardew Valley, you can choose your pet’s breed on the character creation screen. You can pick from different breeds of cats and dogs. If you’re playing an existing save and want to change your pet’s breed, you can do that too.

How to Access the Shrine of Illusions

To access the Shrine of Illusions in Stardew Valley, you have two main options, each involving different approaches. Each approach has its own pros and cons when using.

To use the Shrine of Illusions you can befriend the Wizard.

The first method requires befriending the Wizard by reaching four hearts with him. You can achieve this by giving him gifts he loves, such as Purple Mushrooms, Solar Essence, Super Cucumbers, or Void Essence. Once your friendship is strong enough, you’ll gain access to his basement, where the Shrine of Illusions is located.

Alternatively, you can access the Shrine of Illusions by completing the “Goblin Problem” quest. This quest unlocks the Witch’s Hut, which has a teleporter leading directly to the Wizard’s basement. This option is useful if you’ve already unlocked the Witch’s Hut, providing a convenient way to reach the Shrine without needing to befriend the Wizard first.

How to Use the Shrine of Illusions to Change Pet Breed

Inside the Wizard’s basement, you’ll find the Shrine of Illusions. To access the character customization screen, interact with the Shrine and pay 500g. This will bring up the screen where you can see your pet’s current breed listed at the bottom.

Use the arrows on the screen to toggle through the available breeds and select your preferred one. Remember that you can only change the breed within the same pet type—meaning you can’t switch from a dog to a cat or vice versa. If you want to switch pet types, you’ll need to start a new game.

That’s all you need to know about how to change pet breed in Stardew Valley. Whether you’re looking to give your pet a fresh new look or simply want to explore the different breeds available, the Shrine of Illusions provides a quick and easy way to customize your pet’s appearance.
