Greninja Tera Raid Event Guide
It’s that time of the month again in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet for another 7 Star Tera Raid Battle. The spotlight battle for players to take part in is against Greninja. While the Tera Raid event is active players can take on a level 100 Greninja in a Tera Raid. To learn more about this battle see our Greninja Tera Raid Event guide below.
Greninja Tera Raid Event Details
The Greninja Tera Raid event was announced for Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet back at the beginning of January. The details of the event were shared via the Poke Portal news feed and the Pokemon Company’s various social media accounts. The major details of the Greninja Tera Raid Event you should know are as follows:
Tera Raid Pokemon | Greninja (Mightiest Mark) |
Raid Level | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Level 100) |
Event Dates | January 27, 2023 at 00:00 UTC – January 29, 2023 at 23:59 UTC. February 10, 2023 at 00:00 UTC – February 12, 2023 at 23:59 UTC. |
Tera Type | Poison |
Nature | Sassy |
Like previous 7 Star Raid Battles the Greninja is limited to one catch per save. It is Shiny Locked meaning you have to use alternative methods to get this Pokemon in its Shiny form.
When the Greninja Tera Raid event is active players can look for a Black Crystal Raid Dungeon on their map once per day. Additionally players can also join up online with either their friends or other trainers via the Poke Portal to take on Greninja.
Tera Raid Greninja Moves
Before diving head first into the Level 100 Greninja Tera Raid you will want to know what you are going up against. The Greninja you face is Tera Type Poison. Additionally you will want to know the Pokemon’s moveset. The Level 100 Greninja you face has the following move set:
Move | Description |
---|---|
Protean (Ability) | Changes the Pokemon’s type to the type of the move it’s about to use. This works only once each time the Pokemon enters battle. |
Toxic Spikes (First Turn) | The user lays a trap of poison spikes at the feet of the opposing team. The spikes will poison opposing Pokémon that switch into battle. |
Double Team (First Turn) | By moving rapidly, the user makes illusory copies of itself to boost its evasiveness. |
Hydro Pump | The target is blasted by a huge volume of water launched under great pressure. |
Ice Beam | The target is struck with an icy-cold beam of energy. This may also leave the target frozen. |
Night Slash | The user slashes the target the instant an opportunity arises. This move has a heightened chance of landing a critical hit. |
Gunk Shot | The user shoots filthy garbage at the target to attack. This may also poison the target. |
The current Tera Raid Greninja offers some interesting coverage issues. The Pokemon deals Poison, Water, Ice, and Psychic type damage. To counter this you need to find a Pokemon build that can survive these types of damage while also dealing damage against Greninja.
Pokemon to Use Against Greninja
Slowbro (Solo): Use a Level 100 Own-Tempo Slowbro with the Zoom Lens as held item. Max out HP and Special Attack. Go into the raid with the moves Iron Defense, Nasty Plot, Slack Off, and Stored Power. During the fight do the following:
- 2x Iron Defense.
- Slack Off.
- On turn 3 Greninja will nullify stats.
- 3x Iron Defence again.
- 3x Nasty Plot.
- Use Stored Power until dead.
This strategy works fairly well, but is slow and has a major of drawback. Greninja can Critical Hit with Night Slash. If you are below 50% HP this is a KO. To ensure this doesn’t happen to you, use Slack Off to heal when needed. You can watch the solo run here.
Other Possible Solo
- Kingambit.
- Gastrodon.
- Toxicroak.
- Bellibolt.
- Vaporeon.
- Clodsire
1x Damage/3x Support (Multiplayer): If you can find other players to play with you can handle this raid fairly easily by following a 1/3 approach. One players brings a central damage dealer (ie Slowpoke) and the three others bring the same supports (ie 3x Qwilfish). Have the damage dealer Pokemon focus on buffing damage. Support Pokemon should lower Greninja’s special defense then buff damage dealer. Here’s how it would work with Slowbro/3x Qwilfish:
T1
- Qwilfish – Acid Spray Greninja.
- Slowbro – Nasty Plot.
T2
- Qwilfish – Acupuncture Slowbro.
- Slowbro – Nasty Plot.
T3
- Qwilfish – Heal or Acupuncture Slowbro.
- Slowbro – Stored Power.
The biggest issue with multiplayer is that is requires communication and being on the same page. I would really only suggest using a multiplayer strategy if you know everyone you are raiding with and can communicate with them.
What Items does Greninja Drop during the Raid?
Like other raids Greninja drops items when it is caught/defeated. The items Greninja can drop are high level Raid items and you get a lot of them. You will not get everything each time you complete the Tera Raid. There is a percentage chance drop rate for each item, which you can find over on Serebii. The list of things you can potentially get from this raid are as follows:
- Ability Patch.
- Ability Patch.
- Rare Candies.
- Exp Candy L/XL.
- Carbos.
- Poison Tera Shards.
- TM091 – Toxic Spikes.
- Ability Patch.
- Star Pieces.
- Comet Shards.
- Nugget.
- Bottle Caps.
- PP Up.
- Sassy Mint.
Once you’ve caught Greninja once, you are not able to catch it again. You can, however, farm the raid for the items listed above if you so choose. This can be done by changing your system clock or by helping other online players.
That’s all you need to know to complete the Greninja Tera Raid in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet. This raid is fairly tough and does require you to put come effort into completing. If you are struggling, drop look for people in the comments below to help you.
