Once you speak to the Duchess about the treasure you will trigger the Hunter for Hire quest. This quest has a few optional steps and one main step (build a sign). The first optional step is to speak to Mort about building your C.A.M.P. Mort is the NPC sitting at the bar so speak with him if you wish to complete this optional step (otherwise skip ahead).

When speaking to Mort talk to him about your C.A.M.P. Mort will give you a set of holotapes. Listen to these tapes via your pip-boy under Item > Holo. Once you’ve listened to the tapes speak with Mort and tell him you’ve listened to the tapes to complete this objective.

(Optional) Build a Weapons Workbench at your C.A.M.P. to Scrap Items

The second optional objective during this quest is to setup your C.A.M.P. and build a Weapons Workbench. This is fairly straightforward. All you need to do is head outside The Wayward, place your C.A.M.P. and build a Weapons Workbench. The Weapons Workbench recipe is as follows:

  • Aluminum 6x.
  • Gear 3x.
  • Rubber 3x.
  • Screw 3x.
  • Wood 4x.

To build the Weapons Workbench gather the above materials and interact with your C.A.M.P. From the craft screen make your way over to the Crafting tab and scroll down to the Weapons Workbench. Place wherever you so desire to complete this objective.

To advance the story you need to craft a Crane Treasure Hunting Sign. To do this you need to read the Plan: Crane Treasure Hunting Sign from Item > Notes. Once you’ve read the plan you will be able to craft this item at your C.A.M.P. using the following materials:

  • Circuitry x1.
  • Copper x1.
  • Plastic x2.
  • Steel x6.
  • Power 1x.

Once you have the material listed above you can craft this sign by interacting with your C.A.M.P. and selecting the Quest tab. From here you should be able to craft the Crane Treasure Hunting INC. Sign. Once the sign is placed you will unlock the next step of the quest.

To load the audiotape make your way to the tower to Relay Tower EM-B1-27 which is located to the west of The Wayward. At the broadcast tower go inside and interact with the Emergency Management console there. Select Load Holotape and insert the Broadcast Tape then activate Transmitter Connection. Once the tape is played return to your C.A.M.P.

Wait to See Who the Sign Draws In and Get More Quest Steps

At your C.A.M.P. go to where you placed the sign to find Free Radicals appear. Speak to the Free Radical with the quest marker over its head. Use either Luck, Strength, or attack to deal with this enemy. Once the enemy is dealt with you will learn the whereabouts of the gang’s hideout. Take this information and return to the Duchess here you will receive you next quest step and some optional steps as well:

  • Fast Travel to Vault 76 (Optional).
  • Question the Family at Anchor Farm (Optional): Anchor Farm can be found to the northwest of Vault 76. Speak to Daniel there to learn about the the deal and the password: Blue Danube. If you mention killing the bandits Daniel will tell you he can have a one-time set of some supplies for you.
  • Speak to the Scrapper at Tyler County Fairgrounds: Continue northwest of Anchor Farm to reach the Tyler County Fairgrounds. At the Tyler County Fairgrounds speak to Liebowitz about the lumber camp. Liebowitz will give you a quest to get an egg for him in exchange for 3x Stealth Boy.

The above mentioned steps are all optional and can be skipped if you so desire. These steps simply allow you to earn more items for your play-through.

Kill the Gang Leader or Convince Gang Leader to Leave The Wayward Alone

When you are ready make your way to the WV Lumber Co. At the location interact with the Intercom and select from any of the following options:

  • I’m here to talk to your boss (Requires Password: Blue Danube).
  • I’d like to join your organization.
  • (Attack) Got a delivery. Lead. And lots of it.

Regardless of what you decide you need to reach and either kill or convince Roper to leave The Wayward alone. Once you’ve done this return to Duchess and tell her the outcome. This starts the next quest called Strength in Numbers.
