Blasphemous 2 Mea Culpa Prisoner Guide

The Prisoner NPC in Blasphemous 2 Mea Culpa.

In the Blasphemous 2 Mea Culpa DLC, players can undertake a unique quest involving a prisoner awaiting execution. This quest requires setting up the execution and then choosing the prisoner’s fate, with different rewards based on the choices made. Use our Blasphemous 2 Mea Culpa Prisoner quest guide below for step-by-step help in completing this quest and maximizing your rewards.

Where to Start the Prisoner Quest

To start the Prisoner quest in Blasphemous 2, head to the Icebound Mausoleum area. Access this area by first obtaining the Mud Key from the Mud Statue in the Street of Wakes. Once you have the key, use it to unlock the Mud Door, which opens the path to the DLC area where the quest room is located.

Visit this room to meet the Prisoner and start his quest.

Navigate through the Icebound Mausoleum until you reach the room marked with a guillotine icon on your map. Once there, speak to the prisoner and pull the lever to raise the guillotine blade slightly. This action will open a door on the upper right, allowing you to advance deeper into the next area.

The next steps in this quest involve locating and pulling two additional levers in different parts of the Icebound Mausoleum. I’ll guide you to their locations below.

Lever 1 Location

Go to this room and pull this lever to raise the guillotine more.

One of the levers is located in this room within the Icebound Mausoleum. To reach it, you’ll need to complete a short platforming section. Once you get there, pull the lever to raise the guillotine blade a bit higher.

Another lever can be found in this room of the Icebound Mausoleum. You’ll need to complete some additional platforming to access it. Once you reach the lever, pull it to raise the guillotine blade even higher.

Kill or Spare the Prisoner Outcomes Explained

Important: If you are going for achievements you will want to make a backup save before this portion of the quests. This will allow you to unlock both achievements on the same save.

After pulling both levers mentioned above, return to the prisoner’s room, marked by the guillotine icon on your map. Pull the lever here once more to raise the guillotine to its highest position. Now, you’ll face a choice: either kill or spare the prisoner. Your decision will determine the reward you receive and influence a future encounter.

  • Kill: If you want to kill the prisoner simply pull the lever. After the prisoner is executed you will unlock the Mind Your Head Achievement. You can also loot the Prisoner’s body to receive the Pearl of the Punished.
  • Spare: If you want to spare the prisoner hit the guillotine blade with your weapon until it breaks. This will free him and continue the questline.

If you choose to spare the prisoner, the questline will continue. Later in the DLC, you’ll encounter the prisoner at a specific location, where he will give you your reward and the achievement will unlock.

Where to Find the Prisoner After Sparing Him

If you spare the Prisoner he goes to this location in Santa Vigilia.

If you choose to spare the prisoner, he will leave and travel to a DLC location called Santa Vigilia. Head to the location shown on the map above, where you’ll find the prisoner praying. Speak to him there to receive The Prisoner Altarpiece and unlock the Cruel Compassion achievement.

No matter which outcome you choose, you can still acquire both items in a single playthrough. Simply visit the merchants Medardo and Escolástico to purchase either The Prisoner or the Pearl of the Punished.

That’s all you need to know to complete the Prisoner quest in Blasphemous 2: Mea Culpa. There are other questlines to explore in this DLC, including a secret grave quest that rewards you with a valuable item.
