Mutations are one of the most important mechanics in Steal an Egg. These permanent buffs drastically increase how much money your pets earn, so understanding how to use them is key to getting rich fast. Our Steal an Egg mutations guide below covers everything you need to know.
What Are Mutations
Mutations are buffs that apply to pets in Steal an Egg. When a pet is mutated, it looks visually different and their earnings per second increase.
Mutations come in two types:
- Natural: Silver, Golden, Rainbow
- Event: limited-time mutations tied to seasonal events
Each mutation offers a different earnings increase.
Pets can have multiple mutations stacked, allowing you to further improve their earning power.
How to Get Mutations
You can get mutations for your pets a couple of ways: naturally or by taking part in the special events that run regularly.
Natural Mutations
Natural mutations appear randomly while you play. Sometimes eggs spawn as Silver, Golden, or Rainbow variants.
When a mutated egg spawns, the announcement includes the mutation as a prefix on the egg’s name — for example, “A Golden Gorilla King egg” — and tells you which biome it’s in.
Admin Abuse sessions during updates are a great way to get them — the mods tend to spawn mutated eggs often.
Natural mutations can also happen when you use the Fuse Machine or Fuse Altars. You may receive a mutated egg from fusing. The chance of this is rare, but it can happen.
Special Event Mutations

While getting a naturally mutated egg is largely down to luck, getting event mutations is not.
Steal an Egg regularly holds special events. During these events, players can take part in activities to earn limited-time mutations that can be applied to whatever pet you’d like.
Most special events require completing challenges like defeating bosses or collecting resources, and they often run on a set schedule.
Mutations List & Earnings Multipliers
Mutations on pets affect how much the pet earns. They come in different variants and strengths. The table below details all of the mutations in the game.
When reading the table, keep in mind that many of them are no longer obtainable, as they were from limited-time events.
| Mutation | Earnings multiplier | How to get it |
|---|---|---|
| Luminous | ×10 | Luminous Egg (1% hatch) |
| Rainbow | ×3.5 | Wild egg spawns, Fuse Machine |
| Parasite | ×3 | Parasite Egg (Hungry Monster Event) |
| Fractured | ×2.75 | Boss rewards (Rift Boss Event) |
| Golden | ×2.5 | Wild egg spawns, Fuse Machine |
| Spirit Bloom | ×2.5 | Sakura Incubator (Cherry Blossom Event) |
| Silver | ×1.2 | Wild egg spawns, Fuse Machine |
| Bloom | ×1.25 | Sakura Incubator (Cherry Blossom Event) |
| Scrambled | Unknown | Scrambled Mutation (Dr. Scrambles’ Event) |
| Enchanted | Unknown | Butterfly Trade-In (Butterfly Bloom Event) |
One thing to keep in mind is that stacking is additive, not multiplicative. Mutations add their bonuses onto the base 100%: Golden (+150%) + Rainbow (+250%) = ×5 earnings, not ×8.75.
How to Apply Mutations

Some mutations come already applied to eggs, while others do not. To apply a mutation to your egg, hold the item and approach it, then interact when prompted to “Apply Mutation.”
Depending on the mutation’s success rate, you may need to apply it to the same egg multiple times before it activates. A message will confirm whether it applied successfully.
Failed mutation attempts consume the item, so don’t use mutation items on eggs you wouldn’t want to keep.
If you’re having trouble finding your eggs in your pen, you can hide your pets in the settings. This makes applying your mutations much easier.
That’s all you need to know about pet mutations in Steal an Egg. Understanding this system is key to earning more money! The more mutations you have, the more you earn!
