Stardew Valley Shane Guide: Romance, Gifts, Heart Events, and More

Pelican Town is home to a wide cast of villagers in Stardew Valley, with some characters you can befriend and others you can romance. One of the romanceable bachelors introduced in the 1.1 update is Shane. In this guide, we’ll cover everything you need to know about Shane, from his backstory to his heart events and loved gifts.

Who is Shane?

Shane is one of six eligible bachelors in Pelican Town and works at JojaMart as a shelf stocker. He rents a room at Marnie’s Ranch and often comes across as rude or unhappy due to his personal struggles with depression and alcoholism. However, as your friendship grows, you’ll uncover more about his aspirations, including his dream of starting a free-range chicken farm. If you marry Shane, this goal is partially fulfilled as he moves in and tends to chickens on your farm.

Where Does Shane Live in Stardew Valley?

Shane resides at Marnie’s Ranch, located south of your farm in Cindersnap Forest. His room is on the right side of the house. You’ll need to visit the ranch often, as many of Shane’s heart events are tied to this location. Marnie also plays a role in Shane’s journey toward overcoming his alcoholism and adopting healthier habits.

Where Does Shane Work?

During weekdays, Shane works at JojaMart as a shelf stocker. You can find him there from 7:10 AM to 5:00 PM, but note that you cannot interact with him while he’s working. After work, Shane heads to the Stardrop Saloon, where he unwinds with a drink.

Best Gifts for Shane

To build your friendship or romantic relationship with Shane, you’ll need to give him gifts. Focus on items he loves for maximum friendship points. Here’s a list of Shane’s loved gifts:

• Beer
• Hot Peppers

You can give Shane up to two gifts per week, but for the best results, give him a loved gift on his birthday (Spring 20th) for 8x the normal friendship points.

How to Trigger Shane’s Heart Events

As you strengthen your relationship with Shane, you’ll unlock heart events that reveal more about his character and deepen your bond. These heart events not only show his struggles with depression and alcoholism but also pave the way for romancing and eventually marrying him.

Here’s a breakdown of all the Shane heart events and how to trigger them:

2 Hearts	Enter Cindersap Forest between 8:00 PM and 12:00 AM.
3 Hearts	Shane will send you the recipe for Pepper Poppers in the mail.
4 Hearts	Enter Marnie’s Ranch.
6 Hearts	Enter Cindersap Forest between 9:00 AM and 8:00 PM.
7 Hearts	(Part 1) Enter Marnie’s Ranch when Shane is home. (Part 2) Enter Pelican Town between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM on a sunny day (must have 2 hearts with Emily and Clint). (Part 3) Shane will send you the recipe for Strange Bun.
8 Hearts	Enter Marnie’s Ranch when Shane is home.
10 Hearts	Exit your house before 6:30 AM, then walk to the Bus Stop between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM.
14 Hearts	(Part 1) Enter town on a non-Friday between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. (Part 2) Enter town the next day between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. (Part 3) Enter town again the following day between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM.

After completing Shane’s 8-heart event, you’ll unlock the ability to hatch blue chickens. There’s a 25% chance of getting a blue chicken when hatching eggs in a coop, or you can repeatedly buy and cancel chicken purchases from Marnie until you get a blue one.

Shane’s story in Stardew Valley is one of personal growth and redemption. From his initial cold demeanor to his eventual warmth and dream of running a chicken farm, Shane is a character worth getting to know.
