In Stardew Valley, chickens are among the essential farm animals players can raise. They come in a few different colors initially (white and brown), but there’s also a rare Blue Chicken available for dedicated players. Follow this guide to learn how to get your very own Blue Chicken in Stardew Valley.

1. Build a Coop

The Chicken Coop can be built with the following materials.

To start raising chickens, you’ll need to build a coop on your farm. To do this, head to Pelican Town’s carpenter, Robin, and select “Construct Farm Buildings.” Provide her with the following materials to build a coop:

  • 4,000g
  • 200x Wood
  • 100x Stone

It takes two days for Robin to complete the coop. Once built, you can house chickens on your farm. However, before you can get Blue Chickens, there’s an important step to complete.

2. Befriend Shane to 8 Hearts

One of the Shane Heart Events.

Shane’s heart event reveals his love for chickens, making him key to unlocking Blue Chickens. You’ll need to build a friendship with him by giving him gifts he loves. Focus on the following items to quickly raise his hearts:

  • Pizza
  • Pepper Poppers
  • Beer
  • Hot Peppers

Once you’ve reached 8 hearts with Shane and triggered his 8-heart event, you’ll unlock the ability to acquire Blue Chickens for your farm.

3. Hatch or Purchase Blue Chickens

After reaching 8 hearts with Shane, there are two ways to get Blue Chickens for your coop:

  1. Hatching: Each egg you place in your coop has a 25% chance of producing a Blue Chicken. Keep hatching eggs until a Blue Chicken appears.
  2. Buying: You can also buy chickens from Marnie. Each time you buy one, the game will randomly assign a color (blue, white, or brown). If you don’t get a Blue Chicken, cancel the purchase and try again until you do.

Keep in mind that Blue Chickens are purely cosmetic and do not offer any gameplay advantages like Golden Chickens. But they certainly add a unique look to your farm!
