The final piece of DLC content for Remnant From the Ashes, Subject 2923, is finally upon us. This DLC offers players the chance to playthrough a new campaign that falls after the events at the end of the base game. In this DLC players must track down Subject 2923 to help defeat the Root on Earth once and for all. Having played much of the DLC here’s some of our Remnant From the Ashes Subject 2923 impressions.

A Fitting Send Off

Subject 2923 is the final piece of content for Remnant From the Ashes. This piece of content places players in a new section of Earth where they must cross old farmlands and explore a military base before reaching the new planet of Reisum using a portal.

The opening of the DLC plays out fairly linear in fashion which is a bit of a departure from the randomness of the different planets and the dungeon system in the base game. While there is still some randomness in the opening sequence the focus here is on reaching the military base and exploring it.

I found the military base to be an interesting change from the other campaign as the base itself is somewhat of a maze/puzzle. You will need to figure out where to go and how to get the power on. This objective required more brain power than I normally expend while playing Remnant From the Ashes which was a nice change. Add in the time shifting mechanic you need to use to open various doors and you have a fun-to-play opening sequence.

The Frigid Planet of Reisum

Once you do manage to get power up and running so you can reach the portal you will head to the bulk of the DLC which is on the planet Reisum. Reisum is a frigid planet that is a mix of a snowy mountain hub, frigid shores, and icy villages.

Overall, the new planet Reisum is fairly interesting and diverse visually, layout wise, and gamplay wise. As to be expected the planet has all new randomized dungeons complete with new puzzles, new enemies, new bosses, new weapons, new Trinkets, new NPCs, and more to find and explore within.

Since the planet of Reisum is where you will be spending most of your time in the DLC you are able to access it from both the Campaign and Adventure Mode at the World Stone. This makes seeing everything the planet has to offer fairly easy as you can cycle the dungeon rolls in Adventure Mode until you’ve seen it all.

Remnant From the Ashes is one of those ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it type of games.’ The Subject 2923 DLC is more of what makes the game fun and interesting for a lot of players. If you liked previous content but wish there were new locations to explore this DLC is a no brainer to pick up.

You can easily get a good 10-15+ hours out of simply exploring dungeons, fighting new bosses, and collecting the various new items that have been added by the Subject 2923 DLC. There is also a bunch of lore to explore if you are into the game’s storyline. Finishing this DLC caps off the game in a fairly satisfying and closed manner and makes me excited to see what Gunfire Games does next.
