Port-A-Fort – Fortnite Battle Royale is Getting a Fort Building Grenade

New item the Port-A-Fort announced for Fortnite Battle Royale.

It seems like every week, Fortnite Battle Royale is teasing some strange new game mechanic that’s on the horizon, and this week is no different. Yesterday, Fortnite Battle Royale launched a teaser for a new grenade that is being added to the game and it looks crazy. Dubbed the Port-A-Fort, the new Fortnite BR grenade will allow players to instantly build a fort where it is thrown. Take a look at the quick teaser from the Fortnite YouTube channel below.

New Port-A-Fort Grenade Announced in Teaser

While the teaser is fairly short, we get a good look at the new fort building grenade that is coming to Fortnite Battle Royale. In the teaser, two players have another player pinned down and seem to have them outgunned.  The solo player pulls out a Port-A-Fort and triggers it,  spawning a large fort  which leads to the other players getting defeated.

It will be interesting to see how exactly the new Port-A-Fort item will impact gameplay in Fortnite Battle Royale, as it seems like it could have a meta shifting impact. Recent additions such as the guided missile launcher have shifted how end game battles take place, and the Port-A-Fort seems like it may do the same. The ability to immediately gain high ground on your opponents could lead to some fun interactions between players.

Fortnite Battle Royale has yet to announce when the Port-A-Fort grenade will go live for players. The only release date the studio has shared is simply “coming soon”. I expect we will see this new item in the coming weeks through an update.

Fortnite Battle Royale is currently available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and iOS devices (with Android coming soon).
