How to Repair Weapons in Red Dead Redemption 2

In Red Dead Redemption 2, maintaining your weapons is essential to keeping them performing at their best. If you’ve noticed that your weapon’s condition is deteriorating, it will be less effective in combat, so it’s important to repair them to restore their performance. Luckily, there are a couple of ways to fix your weapons. In this guide, we’ll show you how to repair weapons in Red Dead Redemption 2.
Option 1: Clean Your Weapon Using Gun Oil

One of the easiest ways to repair your weapon is to use Gun Oil to clean it. Here’s how you can do that:
- Purchase Gun Oil: Visit a Gunsmith in any major town (denoted by a pistol icon on your map) and buy Gun Oil from the Accessories section in their catalog. A single bottle costs about $1.50, and it will fully restore the condition of a single weapon.
- Open the Weapon Wheel: Once you have the Gun Oil, open the Weapon Wheel by holding L1 (or LB on Xbox) and then select the weapon you want to clean.
- Clean Your Weapon: Hover over the gun you want to clean, press R3 (Right Stick) to bring up the cleaning menu, and then press Clean. This will use up one Gun Oil. After you’re done, your weapon will be in perfect condition and perform at its best.
It’s a good idea to keep a stock of Gun Oil in your inventory while you’re out exploring to avoid getting caught with a poorly maintained weapon.
Option 2: Have the Gunsmith Clean Your Weapon

If you’d rather not handle the cleaning yourself, you can always pay a Gunsmith to restore your weapon to perfect condition. This method is straightforward:
- Visit a Gunsmith: Find a Gunsmith in any town. The Gunsmith can be located on your map with a pistol icon.
- Select Customize: Approach the Gunsmith and press L2 (or LT on Xbox) to focus on them. Select Customize from the available options.
- Choose Your Weapon: From the list of weapons you own, choose the one you want cleaned.
- Pay for Cleaning: You’ll be given the option to Clean Weapon. Pay a small fee to have your weapon restored to perfect condition.
This is an easy option when you’re in a town, and it’s inexpensive compared to buying new weapons or ammo.
Quick Guide for Weapon Repair:

- Either use Gun Oil from your inventory or pay the Gunsmith to clean it for you.
Why Weapon Condition Matters
Your weapon’s condition directly impacts its performance. A weapon in bad condition will have reduced accuracy, power, and overall effectiveness. Keeping your weapons in perfect condition ensures that you’re getting the best stats and performance when you need it most.
