How to Get the Hunter Hatchet in Red Dead Redemption 2

Hunter Hatchet Compendium.
This is the Compendium entry for the Hunter Hatchet.

In Red Dead Redemption 2, there are many unique weapons waiting to be discovered, and one of these is the Hunter Hatchet. This guide will show you exactly where to find it and add it to your collection of weapons.

Hunter Hatchet Location: South of Window Rock

To find the Hunter Hatchet, head south of Window Rock, located in the Grizzlies. Look for a cabin near the river. Once you’ve found the cabin, head northeast of it and look for a tree stump. The Hunter Hatchet is located in the stump.

Approach the stump, pull out the hatchet, and add it to your inventory. It will also appear in your Compendium, tracking all the unique weapons you collect.

About the Hunter Hatchet

The Hunter Hatchet has the following entry in your Compendium:

“A rare hatchet with a long bearded axe bit, offering greater control when planing or shaving wood. This weapon was found in a tree stump near Window Rock in the Grizzlies. Though weathered, it seems fairly new. This hatchet can also be thrown.”

How to Throw the Hunter Hatchet

The Hunter Hatchet, like many melee weapons in Red Dead Redemption 2, can be thrown for ranged attacks. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Equip the Hunter Hatchet: Open your weapon wheel and select the Hunter Hatchet from your melee weapon section.
  2. Aim: To throw the hatchet, aim using your weapon targeting controls. You can press and hold the aim button to enter a focused throwing stance. The crosshair will show you where your hatchet will land.
  3. Throw: Once you’re lined up with your target, press the throw button to release the hatchet. It will fly through the air, striking your target or sticking into surfaces like trees or walls.
  4. Pick it up: After throwing the hatchet, approach the location where it landed to pick it up again. You can reuse it as many times as you like as long as you recover it.

Throwing the Hunter Hatchet can be especially useful for taking out enemies at a distance or for hitting specific targets when you need to be stealthy. Keep in mind that like all thrown weapons, your aim will affect the accuracy, so practice makes perfect!

If you’re working toward collecting all 59 weapons in Red Dead Redemption 2, don’t forget this weapon. It’s one of many unique weapons in the game, alongside others like the Viking Hatchet and Rare Shotgun.
