How to Get Tera Shards in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet

Hassel reward Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet.

Tera Shards are a very valuable resource for players to find in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet. This resource allows players to change the Tera Type of their Pokemon by giving them to a certain NPC. Because of the nature of this resource, you will want to acquire as much of it as possible so you can play around with different builds. To help here’s a quick guide showing how to get Tera Shards in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet.

Speak to Certain NPCs and Befriend Teachers

One method of acquiring Tera Shards while you advance through the game is befriend teachers and speaking to specific NPCs. One of the first NPCs you will speak to that gives you Tera Shards is the chef at the Tera Type changing restaurant The Treasury Eatery in Medali. Speak to her following the gym leader fight to receive 50x Normal Tera Type Shards.

If you didn’t know already, the teachers of your class have some side-stories you can learn about. When you see an ! icon on the destination selection screen of the Naranja/Uva academy it means people in those rooms want to talk to you. Visit the teachers and speak to them at this time. You will improve your relationship with them during these interactions. Forge a ‘close bond’ with the following teachers to earn rewards:

  • Hassel – 50x Dragon Tera Shards.
  • Ms. Tyme – 50x Rock Tera Shards.

This is a one time only reward, but it is fairly simple to complete. All you need to do is ensure you finish the teacher’s questlines to receive your reward.

Defeat or Catch Tera Type Pokemon in the Wild

As you explore the different regions in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet you will encounter Pokemon that shine with a goldish color. These Pokemon are Tera Type Wild Pokemon. When you catch or defeat these Pokemon in the wild they rarely will give you some Tera Shards of their elemental type. This is fairly rare, but it does happen. You can consume sandwiches that increase your Item Drop Power to try and make this method more efficient.

Farm Tera Type Raid Battles

Another source of Tera Shards comes from Tera Type Raid Battles. These Raid Battles can be found across the map at the different glowing crystals you scattered around the overworld. Tera Type Raid Battles are tougher fights than the normal wild Pokemon you encounter.

While you playthrough the main storyline you will have access to Tera Type Raid Battle to of difficulty up to 3*. Once you’ve beaten the game you unlock 4&5* battles. Completing these battles can reward you with Tera Shards. Eat sandwiches that have increase Raid Power to improve your chances of getting Tera Shards to drop. Focus on doing the high star fights when they unlock to really boost your chances of getting Tera Shards.

Collect Tera Shards from Area Zero

The final method I suggests is to collect Tera Shards from Area Zero. Area Zero is the lowest point in The Great Crater of Paldea. You visit this location at the very end of the game. Once you’ve gained access you can return here whenever you’d like. Inside of this cave area you will occasionally find shiny items on the ground. These items are usually Tera Shards. While not the quickest method, it can be any easy way to snag a few shards if needed.

These some ways to get Tera Shards if you’ve been wondering how to get Tera Shards in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet. If you know other super efficient ways of snagging shards I would love to hear them. Drop a comment below telling me what you are doing to score shards for your game.
