How to Catch Eternatus in Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield

At the end of Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield you will be tasked with saving the Galar Region from The Darkest Day. This event is brought about by the chairman who summons the Pokemon called Eternatus. Eternatus is an interesting looking Pokemon that you may want to catch for yourself. Below I will walk you through how to catch Eternatus in Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield.

Note: catching Eternatus is part of the main storyline. Progress up to the Pokemon Championship Finale with Leon to trigger the events leading to The Dark Day.

Defeat Eternatus to Catch It

When you are about to fight Leon in the Pokemon Championship final you will be interrupted by the chairman. The chairman has unleashed a terrible power on the Galar Region which has brought about The Dark Day. To stop The Dark Day you need the help of the Legendary Pokemon Zacian and Zamazenta. This means you need to head into the Slumbering Weald to gather items left from them.

Once you’ve gathered the Broken Sword return to Hammerlocke and fight Mr. Rose. Mr. Rose will then tell you he unleashed Eternatus above. Go up the elevator and fight Eternatus. This fight is two parts. During the first part you will need to get its health to 0. Once this happens you trigger the second part of the fight which is a team battle in which Zacian and Zamazenta will join you. Upon completion of the team battle you be prompted to catch Eternatus. Select catch to add this Poison/Dragon Pokemon to your collection. Once caught Eternatus will be sent to your box.

Eternatus Pokedex Entry

Eternatus is #400 in your Pokedex. This Pokemon is considered a Gigantic Pokemon that is both Poison-type and Dragon-type. The Pokedex entry for Eternatus reads:

The core on its chest absorbs energy emanating from the lands of the Galar region. This energy is what allows Eternatus to to stay active.
