GTA Online Taxi Work
A new side activity is now available for players to take part in in GTA Online. This side activity is none other than taxi driving. Players wanting to make some extra GTA$ can drive passengers around Los Santos and area to make some money. To learn more about this activity here’s our GTA Online Taxi Work guide.
How to Start Taxi Work
When you login to GTA Online for the first time following the addition of the Taxi Work side job you receive a text message. This text message tells you that Taxi Work is now available. To start the side gig you have a few options:
- Go to the Downtown Cab Co. on the corner of Tangerine Street and Mirror Park Boulevard in East Vinewood. Walk to the door and stand in the circle there to be prompted to start Taxi Work.
- Purchase a Taxi from Warstock Cache & Carry. Call Pegasus to call in the Taxi (under Special). Enter the Taxi and push the Request Taxi Work button when prompted.
- Arena Warriors who reached Sponsorship Tier 25 can use their red Taxi to do Taxi Work.
The benefit of option one is that you don’t have to purchase a Taxi to get started. With that said you need to visit the location every time you want to do Taxi Work. The other two options allow you to call in your Taxi wherever you are to get started.
How to Do Taxi Work
Doing the Taxi Work side job is fairly simple. Once you’ve activated the job you will receive a dispatch to pick up a customer. This customer appears on your map as a blue person. Drive to the blue person and park in the blue circle near them. Honk the horn and the passenger will enter your cab. The passenger will give you a destination. Drive the passenger to the destination to earn $GTA from Fare and Tips. The video above from the HTR YouTube channel shows the entire process of a single ride.
If you are done doing Taxi Work jobs you can quit out of it buy either holding the exit vehicle button or using your cellphone to access the Job List. When you quit the Taxi Work you are kicked out of the Cab if you don’t own it or resume control of the Cab if you do own it.
Taxi Work Pay
Doing Taxi Work earns you $GTA. This $GTA comes from two sources: Fares and Tips. Fares are a guaranteed amount you earn barring you don’t die, destroy the Taxi, disconnect, or quit before the passenger is delivered. Tips work differently than Fares. Tips are variable based on timeliness and damage. You start a dispatch with a set tip amount. This amount declines as time passes and you take damage. A Tip can reach as low as GTA$ 0 if you are super slow or crash too many times.
One important aspect of tips is that is increases as you string together streaks of dispatches completed in a row. This streak system works up until 10 rides in a row where it caps out. The Tip cap is between the GTA$1900-GTA$2000 range. The numbers in the table below show how the cap works. They were noted by me during a 15 streak I completed.

From a purely economical stand point completing Taxi Work solely to make money is not worth the effort. Each passenger takes anywhere from 2-4 minutes. This severely limits your potential hourly earn. Additionally it is impossible to earn the full Tip amount on any passenger since there is inherent time decay which always causes the Tip amount to lower.
Taxi Work Awards
Money aside if you are the type of person that enjoys collecting the different Awards available in GTA Online there are two tied to this activity. The Awards can be found under Start > Stats > Awards > Los Santos Drug Wars. The two Platinums that can be unlocked are:
- Taxi Driver: Complete 50 fares during Taxi Work.
- 5 Star Ride: Complete 10 fares in a row during Taxi Work.
Each time you complete one of the Awards listed above you receive 800 RP for your efforts. Completing these two Platinum Awards only takes a few hours to complete.
Downtown Cab Co Rewards (Until February 8)
To celebrate the newly released Taxi side mission, Rockstar is giving players the chance to earn some serious rewards for taking part in the activity. From January 26-February 8 players can earn the following rewards:
- Owners of the Taxi (and those who purchase it through February 8 from Warstock Cache & Carry) will receive the Downtown Cab Co. Revere Collar shirt.
- Complete 1 fare during Taxi Work to receive GTA$100,000.
- Earn GTA$20,000 from Taxi Work to receive an additional GTA$100,000.
- Earn GTA$40,000 from Taxi Work to score the Mustard Vinyl and Mustard Vinyl Cut jackets, and GTA$100,000.
Plus, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S players who earn GTA$20,000 from Taxi Work will receive the Manor Geo Track Pants. In addition, those players will also receive the Manor Geo Cap and Hoodie for earning GTA$40,000 from Taxi Work.
