FromSoftware has unveiled the highly anticipated Elden Ring DLC with a comprehensive gameplay reveal trailer, marking the first major glimpse into the expansion. The studio dropped the trailer today, showcasing three minutes of thrilling content from the DLC and confirming the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree release date.

Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree Release Date and First Gameplay Trailer

The first gameplay reveal trailer premiered on BANDAI NAMCO’s YouTube channel. It offered a three-minute introduction to the DLC, showcasing glimpses of the new location, weapons, NPCs, armor, enemies, and bosses.

True to FromSoftware’s style, the DLC’s narrative remains mysterious. IGN interviewed Hidetaka Miyazaki, providing hints about what players can expect from the DLC.

Key revelations from the interview reveal that the DLC introduces a separate map called the Land of Shadow. It’s accessible via a unique warp mechanism, surpassing Limgrave in size. Players will follow the path of Miquella, who is following Queen Marika, a central figure in the DLC’s narrative.

Regarding difficulty, Miyazaki confirmed the DLC would contain a mix of challenging bosses, including completely optional ones like Malenia in the base game.

Further hinting at the the mystery of the DLC land is a special note that FromSoftware put on the DLC’s official pre-order website. This note reads as follows:

The Land of Shadow.

A place obscured by the Erdtree.
Where the goddess Marika first set foot.

A land purged in an unsung battle.
Set ablaze by Messmer’s flame.

It was to this land that Miquella departed.
Divesting himself of his flesh, his strength, his lineage.
Of all things Golden.

And now Miquella awaits
the return of his promised Lord.

The trailer also revealed the DLC’s release date: Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree launches on June 21 on various platforms. Pre-orders are available now and require the base Elden Ring game.
