Destiny 2: Contact Public Event Guide
The new Season of Arrival for Destiny 2 brings with it a number of new features like new weapons, armor, story missions, and a new public event called Contact. Like previous seasonal events you will spend a good chunk of time playing this new activity so I put together a complete Contact public event guide below.
How to Start the Contact Event
Contact is a public event that’s active during the Season of Arrival. This public event takes place on Io (starting June 9th) and Titan. The event is highlighted on your map by a crystal (as seen on the screenshot above). To see if the event is currently active you can hover over the icon. If the event is active you can go and join it. If the event isn’t active you can go and start it yourself. Keep in mind the Contact event has a recommended power level of 990 that increases to 1040 in the Heroic version, so be ready for some tanky enemies.
How to Complete the Contact Event
To complete the Contact event is fairly straightforward as it plays out like a stripped down PvE game of Gambit. At the start of the event you or another player will place a beacon that summons the Containment Bank. When the bank appears the event will start and enemies will begin to spawn.
The most important part of the Contact public event is the bank since the bank needs to be charged with deposits of the event’s currencies. Their are two event currencies you can collect during the event:
- Motes:
- Drop off of ads killed. Look like a gold/black pyramid.
- Players can hold a maximum of 10 Motes though this amount can be upgraded to 15 through the Umbral Mastery II gift.
- Increases bank % when deposited by a small percent.
- Blooms:
- Rare Gold Orbs that are sent out by the pyramid above the bank. Follow the gold trail above the bank to reach them.
- Typically guarded by two enemies and a champion. The champion will pick up the bloom if you don’t defeat it or reach the bloom quick enough.
- Increases bank % when deposited by a large percent.
- Enemy Champions will try to steal Blooms from your bank. Defeat them to stop this from happening.
As you collect and deposit the above currencies you will fill up a meter called Bank charge. When the bank is fully charged you will trigger a spawn of enemy blockers. Enemy blockers make it impossible to deposit the event currencies. You need to defeat the blockers to advance to the next round of collecting/depositing.
In total there are four rounds to this game mode. Each round gets more difficult with more enemies and tougher higher level spawns. If you fail to advance a round by defeating the blockers that spawn the event will conclude. At the end of the final round a boss will spawn that is either normal or heroic depending on how your group completes the event.
How to Trigger the Heroic Contact Event
Like other public events the Contact event has a Heroic version. This harder variant of the event can be triggered by collecting and depositing 4x Blooms while filling the bank. Each round there is one Bloom spawn so you will need to grab the Bloom and deposit it. Once you’ve deposited all four Blooms and filled the bank the Heroic version of the event will trigger, spawning in a tougher boss to fight.
The heroic boss that spawns has an interesting pillar mechanic which results in a shield appearing around the boss until the nearby pillar is destroyed. Once the pillar is destroyed you will be able to deal damage to the boss. This process must be completed three times before the boss will die. If you manage to take down the heroic boss there is a higher chance you will get an Umbral Engram which makes it worth the effort.
