Dark Souls 3: Top Ten Weapons
With the final Souls DLC being released, and having done top ten weapon lists for both Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2, I thought it was time to put together a list for Dark Souls 3. Dark Souls 3 introduces a bunch of new and interesting weapons to the series. Alongside these unique weapons, is the introduction of a new system, Weapon Arts. Weapon Arts provide an interesting new system to Dark Souls, allowing players to do interesting combos. Like the other lists I have put together, this list will focus on the weapons I like. These weapons aren’t the ‘in the meta’ or ‘best rating weapons’. Here is my Dark Souls 3: top ten weapons list.
10. Ringed Knight Paired Greatswords
Location: The Ringed City DLC
Description: ” Paired black greatswords wielded by the Ringed Knights. The arms of early men were forged in the Abyss, and betray a smidgen of life. For this the gods cast a seal of fire upon such weapons, and those who possessed them. ”
Coming in at number ten on the list are the Ringed Knight Paired Greatswords. These badass swords are found in Dark Souls 3’s second DLC, The Ringed City. When I first saw the Ringed Knight wielding these greatswords, I instantly knew I needed them. Luckily From realized that players would want these swords and so they made them a guaranteed drop. Everything about these greatswords are amazing. From the weapons design to the weapon art, the Ringed Knight Paired Greatswords are one of the best greatswords in the game. The weapon description is pretty awesome as well.
9. Onyx Blade
Location: Ashes of Ariandel DLC
Description: “ Elfriede, the eldest amongst her sisters and leader of the Sable Church, bestowed this sword to her knight. Only, the sword was a farewell gift, and acceptance signified the knight’s resignation from Elfriede’s service. ”
Number nine on my list is the Onyx Blade. This blade makes the list for one simple reason, the insane weapon art. There is something about the way the blade moves during the Weapon Art buffing sequence that literally makes my pants tight. Such a minor detail, but a testament to FromSoftware’s attention to deal. The Onyx Blade is also a fairly decent sword so it provides both style and substance.
8. Dancer’s Enchanted Swords
Location: Vanilla Dark Souls 3
Description: ” Paired enchanted swords that Pontiff Sulyvahn bestowed upon the Dancer of the Boreal Valley. These blades, symbolic of the Dancer’s vows, are enchanted with dark magic in the right hand, and fire in the left, mirroring the Pontiff. ”
The Dancer’s Enchanted Swords are interesting to me from a purely visual standpoint. The idea of wielding a blade of fire and a blade of dark magic just seems so right in the Dark Souls universe. Couple this idea with a beautiful visual contrast between the two colors and the Dancer’s Enchanted Swords find themselves at number eight on my list. Tell me you don’t think these blades look incredible?
7. Farron Greatsword
Location: Vanilla Dark Souls 3
Description: ” Greatsword of the Abyss watchers which is atypically paired with a dagger. The dagger is utilized as a wedge in the left hand while the greatsword is held in the right, a unique technique that was synonymous with the Undead Legion. Confounds foes the manner of wolves hunting prey. ”
The Farron Greatsword is the boss weapon of the Abyss Watchers. This weapon pairing puts a greatsword in one hand and a parrying dagger in other. I love the combination of the dagger and greatsword. The weapon handles really well and is a fun set if you like parrying. Another reason the Farron Greatsword makes this list is the weapons interesting Weapon Art. Planting the dagger in the ground, your character spins around. This fun little move is one of the more interesting WA in Dark Souls 3.
6. Harald Curved Greatsword
Location: The Ringed City DLC
Description: ” Giant gold-decorated curved sword wielded by warriors of the Harald Legion, who sought the dark soul. The swords sank into the dark with the legion, where their blades were severely corroded. ”
Another spot, another greatsword. By now, if you’ve read all my other top tens, you’ll know that I am a bit of greatsword fan. Discovering the Harald Curved Greatsword in the new DLC was a pleasant surprise for me. While there isn’t really a specific reason for my infatuation for this weapon, as a package it simply works for me. The design is nice with the corroded gold on the curved blade and the weapon art is pretty hip. Pair the blade with the Harald Set and you have an awesome humanity looking cosplay.
