Lost Items can be found while you are out and about on your island. The Lost Items look like a bag. When you approach the Lost Items you can pick them up to add them to your inventory. While in your inventory you can investigate the bag for a very generic “Someone lost this…” message.

How to Find Who the Lost Items Belong to?

To find who the Lost Items belong to simply wander around you island and speak to the different villagers there. When you speak to the villagers you will get a prompted to ask them if they’ve lost anything recently If the villager has not lost anything they will often point you in the direction of an NPC that has. Head to the NPC they suggest and ask them if they have lost anything lately. Return the item to receive a reward.
