Where to Find the Trapper in Red Dead Redemption 2

The Trapper.
The Trapper will buy all of your animal materials.

If you’ve been hunting in Red Dead Redemption 2, you may have found yourself with a stockpile of pelts and nowhere to sell them. This can be especially frustrating when hunting Legendary Animals, as their unique pelts require a special vendor—the Trapper.

The Trapper is a unique merchant who buys animal pelts and crafts special outfits, saddles, and gear from them. However, he won’t be available immediately. Here’s everything you need to know about unlocking and finding the Trapper in Red Dead Redemption 2.

How to Unlock the Trapper

Eastward Bound mission details.
To start you need to complete Chapter 1.

Before you can sell pelts to the Trapper, you must complete Chapter 1 and the mission “Eastward Bound.” This mission marks your gang’s move from the mountains to Horseshoe Overlook, officially beginning Chapter 2 and unlocking free roam. Once you’ve reached this point, the Trapper becomes available in multiple locations.

Trapper Locations in Red Dead Redemption 2

The Trapper operates in five different locations across the game world. Each location allows you to sell pelts, purchase special gear, and craft unique outfits using materials from Legendary Animals.

1. Saint Denis (Main Trapper Location)

📍 Located in the market area on the eastern side of Saint Denis.

The Trapper’s primary shop is in the heart of Saint Denis. It’s easy to access and doesn’t require much travel, making it the most convenient location for selling pelts and crafting exclusive gear.

2. Riggs Station (Closest to Starting Area)

📍 Northeast of Riggs Station, west of Bard’s Crossing.

This is one of the earliest locations you can reach after unlocking the Trapper. It’s situated on a hill and is a great spot to stop by if you’re hunting in the central or western part of the map.

3. Big Valley, West Elizabeth

📍 North of Owanjila Lake, near the western border of West Elizabeth.

This remote location is surrounded by excellent hunting grounds, making it an ideal stop if you’re exploring the western frontier.

4. Roanoke Ridge, New Hanover

📍 West of Elysian Pool, near the border of Grizzlies East.

Tucked away in the dense woods, this Trapper camp is perfect for hunters roaming the forests and mountains of New Hanover.

5. Tall Trees, West Elizabeth (Epilogue Only)

📍 West of Bear Claw, near the Lower Montana River.

This location becomes available only during the game’s epilogue. It’s useful for players who continue hunting after completing the main story.

What Can You Do at the Trapper?

At any of the Trapper locations, you can:

  • Sell animal pelts (including Legendary Pelts).
  • Craft exclusive outfits, saddles, and gear from animal materials.
  • Purchase special items that improve your hunting experience.

The Trapper is the only vendor that allows you to turn Legendary Pelts into unique outfits, so if you’ve hunted a Legendary Animal, make sure to visit him!

Final Tips

  • If you lose a Legendary Pelt before selling it to the Trapper, don’t worry—it will be automatically sent to him.
  • The Saint Denis location is the easiest to reach, but if you’re out in the wild, one of the remote locations might be more convenient.
  • Check your map for the Trapper icon 🐾 to find the nearest one.

Finding the Trapper in Red Dead Redemption 2 is essential for selling pelts and crafting unique gear, especially from Legendary Animals. Whether you’re near Saint Denis or deep in the wilderness, knowing where to find him ensures you never waste a valuable pelt.

Well… you just spread more misinformation about the trapper. You don’t need to skin a legendary animal either. I don’t have any yet and the trapper is available in all locations. My guess is that they are there all the time or appear after the hunting mission for the legendary bear (no matter if you kill it or not).

Thanks for this update. I guess my correlation between things was wrong. I had visited the first Trapper location pre-hunting my first Legendary and he was not there. It would make sense that he would appear after being introduced to Legendary Animals during the quest. Thanks for reading.

Also it would make sense he would appear after the Legendary Bear mission since other things like the Stable are introduced in a similar fashion.
