The fall update for Animal Crossing New Horizons is upon us and with it comes a slew of new content for players to explore. One of the new and interesting additions the fall update added is the introduction of plant-table pumpkins. These new crops can be planted across your island to yield pumpkins that can be used in variety of DIY recipes. Read more below to learn more about pumpkins in Animal Crossing New Horizons.

Where to Buy Pumpkins

To get started on your pumpkin patch you will need to purchase the new Pumpkin Start item. This new item can be purchased from either the Nook’s Cranny or Leif vendors. Keep in mind there are some major price discrepancies between the two shops:

Nook’s Cranny Pumpkin Start Price

  • 280 Bells/per.
  • 5 Bundle for 1400 Bells.

Leif’s Pumpkin Start Price

  • 140 Bells/per.
  • 5 Bundle for 700 Bells.

Given the massive price difference between the two vendors your best money saving approach is to wait for Leif to visit your island. This will save you roughly 50% if you intend to purchase large quantities of pumpkins.

How to Grow Pumpkins

Once you have Pumpkin Start purchased head to where you wish to plant the pumpkins, dig a hole and plant them. After you’ve planted the pumpkins you can treat them much like you would the flowers in-game. If you water the pumpkins they will yield more pumpkins then those left without watering. The maximum yield is three pumpkins when watered twice.

It takes four days for pumpkins to grow. When the pumpkins are fully grown you can harvest them. Once you’ve harvested a plant once the growth time drops to two days. The pumpkin plants will continue to produce pumpkins from then on.

Pumpkin Colors

One interesting aspect of growing pumpkins is that there are four different possible colors of pumpkins that can grow from a Pumpkin Start. These four colors are:

  • Green
  • Orange
  • White
  • Yellow

The color you get to grow depends on luck. You will not know the color of the pumpkins on your plant until you they’ve grown for a few days. Nothing you do currently impacts which color you will get on your plant. With that said the common orange color pumpkins are all you need to complete the Spooky DIY recipes.
