Krobus in the Sewers in Stardew Valley.

The Stardew Valley update 1.4 introduced several new features to the beloved farming game. One exciting addition involves the character of Krobus. For players who have longed to have Krobus as a roommate, their wish has finally come true. With the 1.4 update, Krobus is now a potential roommate candidate for unmarried farmers. If you’re eager to learn how to get Krobus as a roommate, check out our guide below.

Where to Find Krobus

The shadowy figure known as Krobus resides in the Sewer of Pelican Town. Accessing the Sewer requires obtaining the Rusty Key from Gunther, a reward for donating 60 Artifacts to the Museum.

With the Rusty Key in hand, you can unlock the manhole near the graveyard in town or the sewer grate in Cindersnap Forest. Both entrances lead to the Sewer, where Krobus is each day. Krobus doesn’t have a daily schedule as he stays in the Sewers all day.

Increase Your Friendship Level with Krobus to 10 Hearts

Give Gifts to Krobus to improve your friendship with him.

Once you’ve met Krobus in the Sewer, you need to build your friendship with him. To have Krobus move in as your roommate, you’ll need to reach 10 Hearts with him, similar to how you would with the game’s other marriage candidates. It’s important to note that you must be single to ask Krobus to move in.

Building friendship with Krobus works similarly to other villagers in the game. Krobus has specific gifts he likes, which you should focus on giving to earn the most Friendship points. The best items to gift Krobus include:

You can give Krobus two gifts per week, with an additional gift allowed on his birthday, Winter 1. Giving a birthday gift has an 8x effect both good or bad depending on the gift you give.

Focus on gifting giving to build your relationship with Krobus until you’ve reached the 10 Heart mark. This prepares you for the next step in the operation Krobus roommate.

Have an Upgraded Farmhouse

Before you can get married to a villager or ask Krobus to become your roommate, you need to ensure your farmhouse is big enough to accommodate two people.

The required upgrade is the first house upgrade from Robin at the Carpenter’s Shop. It costs the following:

  • 10,000g
  • 450 Wood

After purchasing the upgrade, you’ll need to wait three days for Robin to make the changes. Once construction is complete, you can proceed to marry or get a roommate, thanks to the extra room the upgrade provides.

Get a Void Ghost Pendant and Give it to Krobus

One way to get the Void Ghost Pendant is buying it from the Calico Desert Trader.

After reaching maximum friendship with Krobus and ensuring your house can accommodate a roommate, the next step is to acquire a Void Ghost Pendant. This item functions similarly to the Mermaid’s Pendant but is exclusively for Krobus.

To get yourself a Void Ghost Pendant you have a couple of options to pursue. These options are:

  • Buy it: The Clico Desert Trader sells Void Ghost Pendants for 200 Void Essence
  • Farm it: The Void Ghost Pendant is a possible drop from monsters in the Skull Cavern.

Once you have the pendant, bring it to the Sewers and give it to Krobus. He’ll accept your offer and will move into your farmhouse “secretly” three days later.

Krobus Room & Role as Roommate

When Krobus becomes your roommate, he leaves the Sewer and moves into your farmhouse. Krobus then adds his own room to the house, replicating the Sewer where he used to live.

If you visit the Sewer while Krobus is your roommate, you will find a chest where he used to live. Interacting with this chest brings up Krobus’s store, which still sells all the items he normally would.

Having Krobus as a roommate changes the marriage interactions to platonic versions. Players can hug instead of kiss him, still give gifts to other marriage candidates, and get a Stardrop from him at 13 Hearts.

If you get sick of having Krobus as a roommate you can evict him for free. This is done similar to how divorce works in the game by using the book in Mayor Lewis’s house.

Krobus 14 Heart Event

One significant reason to ask Krobus to become your roommate is unlocking his 14 Heart Event cutscene. As a roommate, you can increase your relationship to this level.

Once you reach 14 Hearts with him, you can visit the Beach on any non-rainy day between 8 pm – 1 am to trigger a special event. The video above from our Hold To Reset channel shows what happens during it.
