IVs are a late game concept so you can’t really unlock viewing them until you’ve beaten Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield. Once you’ve beaten the game make your way to the Battle Tower in Wyndon. At the Battle Tower you need to complete a total of five matches to face off against Leon. After you beat Leon you will unlock the Judge function in your Box.

Once you’ve unlocked the Judge ability you will probably want to use it. To use the Judge ability open your box. In the box you will see the option to View Stats (+). Press this button to see your Pokemon’s IV. As you can see in the picture above my Erternatus has the following:

  • HP: Decent.
  • Attack: Best.
  • Defense: Best.
  • Sp. Atk: Decent.
  • Sp. Def: Best.
  • Speed: Pretty Good.
  • Overall Stats: Great Stats.

Ideally you want to get all the stats to Best but that takes a mixture of breeding and Vitamins to accomplish. The more effort you put into these two areas the better your Pokemon will become.
