The Journey Begins

Hellblade Senua's Sacrifice Guide

At the start of Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, we follow Senua as she canoes her way towards what appears to be an island. As Senua paddles, we get to see the game’s credits as well as learn that Senua is having some psychological problems. These problems take the shape of voices which constantly chatter away about mistakes you are making, or solutions you are missing. Get comfortable with the voices as they are a major theme in the game.

Land

Hellblade Senua's Sacrifice walkthrough

Once we land, we take control of Senua. You’ll quickly find that the game is rather linear in how it presents areas, so I won’t go into much detail on directions. Instead, I will highlight things like puzzles and combat.

Once you do land, make your way through the forest and onto the beach. Here we will learn that we need to walk the bridge above us to make it to the underworld. Since the bridge is above, head up the cliffside and into the cave above. Here we will find our first puzzle.

It’s kind of hard to call this a puzzle per se as it basically introduces the idea of using focus to open doors, but anyways. Inside the cave you will find a red door. This door is locked. Upon interacting, you will meet Druth (hard to hear)? Druth tells you to find a symbol like the one on the lock to open the gate. Head back to the cave entrance and use your focus on the gate. This opens the gate.

Make your way through the unlocked gate and continue following the linear path. Eventually you will make it to THE GATE TO HELL. After a brief cutscene, we dive into some combat. The enemies here are Norsemen, basically the evil enemies we will face throughout the game. The enemies we face are pretty much low level grunts. We need to defeat a total of three enemies before the enemies that appear are shades we cannot damage. Ultimately you will ‘die’ in this fight, but this is part of the story (a way to introduce The Rot).

After dying and then coming back, we learn that there are two ways we can go. These ways are the two doors opposite the Hell Door. We need to kill two gods in order to open the Hellgate. Choose whichever door you wish and head into that portion of this guide.
