Elden Ring Shadow Of The Erdtree Great Katana
The Elden Ring Shadow Of The Erdtree has finally been released. This new DLC adds an entire new map for players to explore. While exploring this new area there are new weapons players can find. One new weapon is the Great Katana. This weapon is a long Katana sword much like the Washing Pole found in other games in the series. To learn where to get this weapon and other details, see our Elden Ring Shadow Of The Erdtree Great Katana guide below.
Where is the Great Katana in Shadow of the Erdtree?
To obtain the Great Katana, start by reaching the Realm of Shadow, which is the DLC area. To access this region, you need to defeat Mohg, Lord of Blood in the Mohgwyn Dynasty Mausoleum. After his defeat, interact with the withered arm in the Cocoon of the Empyrean to be transported to the Realm of Shadow.
Once you arrive, obtaining the Great Katana is relatively straightforward. Head to the northern section of the Gravesite Plain and find the Greatbridge, North Site of Grace. From there, travel west into the swamp area.
In the middle part of this swamp, you will encounter a slumbering Ghostflame Dragon. Next to this dragon, you’ll find a corpse with an item on it. Loot this item to obtain the Great Katana.
If you have already fought the dragon, you can still find the Great Katana. Simply revisit the location in the swamp where the dragon was. The corpse with the sword remains in the same spot, though locating it might be a bit more challenging without the dragon as a landmark. Just search the area carefully, and you’ll find the katana on the corpse.
Great Katana Description & Weapon Details
Large katana with a long, heavy blade. A weapon unique to the warriors of the Land of Reeds. Designed for aggression, this armament requires the wielder to throw their entire body into swinging it. The slashing attacks of its honed edge incite blood loss.
Great Katana Description
Despite its length providing excellent reach, the Great Katana is somewhat slow to wield as it weighs 9.0. The base weapon scales with Strength (D) and Dexterity (D), and it requires 14 STR and 18 DEX to use effectively.
You can upgrade the Great Katana at Smithing Master Hewg in the Roundtable Hold just like any other weapon. To fully upgrade it to +25, you’ll need Smithing Stones and an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone.
This katana comes with the Weapon Skill: Overhead Stance, which can be swapped out with another Ash of War at Hewg or while resting at a Site of Grace. The Great Katana can be both buffed and infused to enhance its combat effectiveness.
This is just one of many new weapons players can get in Elden Ring Shadow Of The Erdtree. Many of these weapons can be found but some require specific unlock requirements to get. One easy one to find is the Backhand Blade. See our Backhand Blade guide for more help.
