Animal Crossing New Horizons: How to Build the Shop
On the island in Animal Crossing New Horizons you will be prompted to settle areas for new buildings. These new buildings bring a number of new amenities to the island. One of the new buildings you can create is the shop. The shop allows you to buy and sell items. To help you get this new building, use our how to open the shop guide below.
How to Build the Shop?
To get the option to build a shop on your island you will need to get an NPC to move to the island. To do this you can either find an NPC during a Special Tour or work towards getting Blathers to move to the island. Once you have more homeowners on your island you can enter the Nook tent to trigger a cutscene between Tom Nook and Timmy. They are talking about building a shop on the island. To build the shop they need:
- 30x Hardwood.
- 30x Softwood.
- 30x Wood.
- 30 Iron Nuggets.
To collect all of the materials listed above you will need to rely on an axe. If you have the Nook Miles you should pick up the longer lasting axes. Regardless farm trees and boulders to get all of the materials listed above.
Once you collect the requires amounts of each item you can return to Timmy in the Nook tent. Speak to Timmy regarding building the shop to give him the necessary materials. Once Timmy has the full amount he will tell you to pick the location for where the new shop should be built. In total construction of the shop takes one IRL day. Pass this time and return on the next day to visit the new shop.
What does the Shop Do in Animal Crossing New Horizons?
Note: With the shop operational Mabel will stop by every so often to set up a stall in the town square to sell clothing items.
When the shop is built you will be able to go inside it to purchase various goods that change daily. The shop is open from 8 AM – 10 PM and it features a drop-off box to sell items outside of operating hours. When you are inside the shop you can purchase any of the items out on display by walking up them and pressing A.
