When you arrive at the island in Animal Cross in New Horizons you will settle down in a camping tent. This camping tent is small and provides little space to decorate. As things progress you are able to upgrade this tent to a house. Once you have a house you can start upgrading its size with more rooms and floors. To help you keep track of all the house upgrades use our Animal Crossing New Horizons house upgrades list below.

Each upgrade you take on can be started through Tom Nook. Tom Nook will offer you a Bell loan that coincides with a house upgrade. When you take on the loan your house will upgrade with something new whether that be larger rooms, more rooms, or new floors. In total there are seven house upgrades for purchase in Animal Crossing New Horizons (eight including move-in):

  1. Move-In: 5,000 Nook Miles.
  2. First House Upgrade: 93,000 Bells – Makes your tent into a house.
  3. Second House Upgrade: 193,000 Bells – Larger main room of your house.
  4. Third House Upgrade: 348,000 Bells – Adds an additional room to your house.
  5. Fourth House Upgrade: 548,000 Bells – Adds an additional room to your house. Also unlocks House Customization.
  6. Fifth House Upgrade: 758,000 Bells – Adds an additional room to your house. Also unlocks Door Customization.
  7. Sixth House Upgrade: 1,248,000 Bells – Adds a second floor to your house. Also unlocks siding and mailbox customization.
  8. Seventh House Upgrade: 2,498,000 – Adds a basement to your house. Also unlocks free exterior renovations for life when paid off. This is the final upgrade you can unlock.

To purchase the above mentioned upgrades you will need to speak to Tom Nook. Each time you take out a loan on your house you need to pay it off in full before you can get the next. Each loan is more expensive than the previous one, but it often provides a better upgrade.
