Xbox Will Soon Put Activision Blizzard Titles on Game Pass
It has been a big day in the game world today. Microsoft’s $69 Billion acquisition of Activision-Blizzard received approval from the CMA, causing the deal to close. With its acquisition, Xbox now holds a number of high value gaming properties. With the deal now closed, Xbox will soon put Activision Blizzard titles on Game Pass.
UPDATE: Phil Spencer gave an in-depth interview on the Official Xbox Podcast that shared further details on ABK titles coming to Game Pass. He confirmed that Activision Blizzard games will not be on the service until 2024.
Xbox head Phil Spencer posted to the Xbox Wire, acknowledging the anticipation of gamers and indicating that work is underway to bring these franchises to Game Pass and other platforms:
“Today, we start the work to bring beloved Activision, Blizzard, and King franchises to Game Pass and other platforms. We’ll share more about when you can expect to play in the coming months. We know you’re excited – and we are too.”
Details of the Game Pass additions also came from the official Xbox Game Pass X account. This account tweeted out a message to players following the finalization of the deal. Stating:
Activision Blizzard boasts a significant collection of major gaming titles that will provide an instant injection of AAA games to the service. However, it’s worth noting that some of the most prominent titles, such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Diablo 4, are not expected to join the service until at least sometime next year.
The outcome of the Xbox-Activision Blizzard deal is still uncertain. Essentially, Microsoft has acquired access to a vast library of titles spanning across consoles, PC, and mobile platforms, which is expected to seamlessly integrate into their subscription program. This move has the potential to bring a substantial boost to the Microsoft gaming ecosystem.
