What to Do with the Kite in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

In Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, FromSoftware games are known for their intricate mysteries and puzzles, and one such mystery involves a kite you can fly in the Senpou Temple area. If you’re wondering what to do with the kite, this guide will walk you through the process of using it to unlock a new area and defeat a deadly snake.
1. Collect the Mortal Blade
To use the kite, you must first progress the story to the point where you acquire the Mortal Blade. Defeat Genichiro at the top of Ashina Castle and the Screen Monkeys in the Hall of Illusions. After these boss fights, you’ll enter the Inner Sanctum, where you’ll meet the Divine Child of Rejuvenation, who gives you the Mortal Blade. Additionally, you’ll unlock the Puppeteer Ninjutsu ability, which is essential for manipulating the kite.
2. Get the Kite in Position with Puppeteer Ninjutsu

Once you have the Puppeteer Ninjutsu ability, head to the Senpou Temple and make your way to the Mt. Kongo Sculptor’s Idol. From the idol, leave through the open door and head down the mountain. Keep an eye out for a monkey on a bridge to your right. Below, you’ll find a “rat” enemy operating the kite controls. Sneak up on it, backstab, and use Puppeteer Ninjutsu (press R1/RB) to control the rat. It will raise the kite for you, allowing access to a new area.
3. Use the Kite to Reach a New Area
With the kite raised, head to the temple with three monks praying around a corpse. Look for an open window, then spot a large tree in the center of the area. Grapple to the top of the tree and position yourself so you’re facing the kite. Use your grappling hook to latch onto the kite, which will sling you across the valley to a new area.
4. Access the New Area and Kill the Snake

After reaching the other side, navigate along the cliff face by jumping and hookshotting. Continue until you reach a platform with a cave. Enter the cave, grab the Sculptor’s Idol, and continue forward. You’ll eventually arrive at a ledge above a large snake. Target the snake and jump down onto it. Defeat the snake with two Death Blows to obtain the Fresh Serpent Visera item and unlock a Trophy/Achievement.
Once the kite is raised, you can use it to explore this new area at any time. The ability to cross the valley and defeat the snake is just one example of the unique features in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Take advantage of the kite to explore further and uncover more secrets within the game.
