The Legendary Giants Guide The Crown Tundra

In The Crown Tundra DLC you will need to complete a few expeditions for Peony. These expeditions task you with deciphering legendary clues to encounter legendary Pokemon. The second expedition you are given is called The Legendary Giants. This expedition tasks you with visiting four ruins that house legendary Pokemon. Each of these ruins is locked by a puzzle you need to solve before you can enter. To help you complete this expedition use our The Legendary Giants guide for Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield below.

Before getting started with entering each ruins I want to point out the locations and areas you will find all four ruins in. Three of the ruins are very easy to find as they are just off the main path. The fourth ruin is a bit hidden as it requires meeting certain requirements before you can reach it. The locations of the four ruins are as follows:

  • Giant’s Bed: Iron Ruins.
  • Snowslide Slope: Iceberg Ruins.
  • Giant’s Bed: Rock Peak Ruins.
  • Three-Point Pass: Split-Decision Ruins.

Before starting this quest it is best to stock up on Ultra Balls, potions and revives, and build out your team for catching. You need to catch all of the Pokemon listed below to complete this expedition.

How to Enter Iron Ruins (Registeel)

  • Area: Giant’s Bed.
  • Entrance Text: “Let ring the piercing note that will wake the giant of steel.”

To enter the Iron Ruins you need to make a sound that brings Pokemon running. To do this you will need to whistle which can be done by pressing in (clicking) the left-thumbstick on your controller. Once you’ve whistled in front of the doors they will open allowing you to enter the ruins. Inside the ruins you will encounter a number of lights on the floor. Run over all of them so they turn on to trigger a change in the air. Approach the statue on the back wall and interact with it to fight Registeel. You need to catch it (can be repeated if fainted).

How to Enter Iceberg Ruins (Regice)

  • Area: Snowslide Slope.
  • Entrance Text: “Walk together with a living crystal of snow.”

To access the Iceberg Ruins, place a Cryogonal in your party’s first position (catch one near the ruins entrance). Once you meet this condition, the ruins’ doors will open for entry. Inside, you’ll find several floor lights; step on all to activate them and alter the atmosphere. Approach the statue on the back wall and engage with it to initiate a battle with Regice. Capture it (you can retry if it faints).

How to Enter Rock Peak Ruins (Regirock)

  • Area: Giant’s Bed.
  • Entrance Text: “Let the first Pokemon hold a never-changing stone.”

To enter the Rock Peak Ruins give the first Pokemon in your party and Everstone. Once the stone is in your Pokemon’s inventory the doors will open allowing you to enter the ruins. Inside the ruins you will encounter a number of lights on the floor. Run over all of them so they turn on to trigger a change in the air. Approach the statue on the back wall and interact with it to fight Regirock. You need to catch it (can be repeated if fainted).

How to Enter Split-Decision Ruins (Regieleci/ Regidraco)

Image showing the entrance to Split-Decision Ruins in The Crown Tundra.
  • Area: Three-Point Pass.
  • Entrance Text: “When gather the three giants, the door of destiny shall be opened.”

To access the final ruins, include Registeel, Regice, and Regirock in your party. When these three Pokemon are active you the door leading into Split-Decision Ruins will open. Inside the ruins you will encounter the same lights setup on the floor. This time your input matters as you will need to decide between Regieleci/ Regidraco. The dots on the outside of the ruins determine what you get when inputted:

  • Left Dot Pattern: Regielci (Electric).
  • Right Dot Pattern: Regidraco (Dragon).

Input whichever pattern you wish to fight that Pokemon. Note you only get one of these Pokemon so make whichever decision you think is best. Capture this Pokemon to complete the final objective of this expedition.

Make your way back to Freezington and speak to Peony. For catching all four of the Pokemon he will mark off the second expedition as being complete. If you need more help with our quests in this game use our The Crown Tundra guides.

I can’t seem to find Peony at either the max lair or the house. I’ve already caught the legendary birds and the Regis. Do I have to catch Virizion, Terrakion, and Cobalion just for Peony to reappear? Do I have to catch Calyrex?
