Resident Evil 4 Remake Announced During June 2022 State of Play
Sony held a State of Play stream on June 3rd, 2022 which featured a look at PS VR2 titles and third-party titles. The live stream was packed with announcements with a major one being the reveal that Capcom has made a Resident Evil 4 Remake. The remake of the 2005 title will release on March 24, 2023 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Resident Evil 4 Remake Announcement Trailer
The announcement trailer features the first look at the upcoming remake of Resident Evil 4. The trailer doesn’t show a ton of details, but it does give a sense of the vibe the remake is going for. Instead of the action-horror game that was the original, the remake appears to be going in a more, as the official website says, “survival-horror” direction.
If you are unfamiliar with the original’s story, you take on the role of Leon S. Kennedy, survivor of the Racoon City incident. Leon receives and order from the President of the United States to rescue his kidnapped daughter Ashley. To do this Leon visits a mysterious village and meets a cast of characters including the iconic Merchant.

How faithful Capcom will be to the source material remains to be seen. Since this is a remake (not a remaster), changes to the base game are to be expected. The game’s website says the following when describing the title:
Resident Evil 4 is a remake of the 2005 original Resident Evil 4.
Reimagined for 2023 to bring state-of-the-art survival horror.
Resident Evil 4 preserves the essence of the original game, while introducing modernized gameplay, a reimagined storyline,
and vividly detailed graphics to make this the latest survival horror game where life and death, terror and catharsis intersect.
Some early changes are apparent in the announcement trailer. Leon’s look is more in-line with that of the recent remakes Capcom has released. He is also wearing a real-world snakeskin jacket made by Schott NYC. Ashley looks different as well. She is no longer blonde and appears to be much older than portrayed in the original title.
