New World has been delayed again, again

The upcoming Amazon MMO New World has been delayed again. This marks the second time the release date has been moved for the game. Previously it was supposed to release in spring 2021, but was moved to August 31st. The new date moves it again to September 28th.

News of the delay came from the New World Twitter account. The announcement is a long form message to fans that lays out the studio’s reasoning for the delay. Basically the studio is using feedback to “smash bugs, improve stability, and polish the game.”

News of the delay comes on the heels of a rather successful Closed Beta that was held recently. The MMO was played by over a million players who clocked in 16 million total hours. It also smashed it’s own record on Steam, surpassing 200k+ concurrent players.

Play stats aside the game also had a sizable audience on streaming services like Amazon’s own Twitch. The game pulled in an audience of hundreds of thousands of viewers while the Closed Beta was running.

Amazon has struggled of late getting games to market from their new internal studios. Given the success of New World‘s beta test the delay seems to be effort to really push out a solid product.

What are you going to do now that New World has been delayed again? Let me know in the comments below.
