The Mountain Between Us Trailer or: If You’re Gonna be Stuck in the Wilderness, at Least Let it be With Idris Elba

Here’s is a trailer for a flick that I hadn’t heard of till about, oh say, five minutes ago. It appears to be a survival flick that could go either of two ways.

#1 – It hits all those glorious survival movie sweet spots that haven’t been hit for us since The Grey in 2011, and  is deemed one of the best movies of the year.

#2 – It’s just a vanilla two performance movie that comes and goes, and is completely forgotten two weeks after it is released.

I am certainly hoping for door #1 here, and I will be going to see the film, simply because Idris Elba is in it (I after all did go see No Good Deed for that very reasons, and this flick has to be better than that). I am worried though that the Wiki for The Mountain Between Us has it listed as a “romance-disaster movie” which must be a new sub-genre. Let us just hope that the emphasis is on disaster more than romance, though a little romance will be tolerated if the disaster elements are strong. Oh, and after you watch the trailer, I am sure that you’ll agree that the titular “Mountain” must be figurative, no?

“Look into the eyes of a FilmApe and you will see real stupidity. It is a kind of bottomless stupidity, a fiendish stupidity. They are the most horrifying, cannibalistic and nightmarish creatures in the world.” - Werner Herzog

Also, all my time spent paying The Long Dark would help me crush it on the mountain

Snoozefest, though I always enjoy watching Idris trudge around in an overcoat. As long as he pops the collar…

I always welcome more films playing in the Six Days, Seven Nights wheelhouse…
