Stardew Valley 1.7 Update Adds 2 New Marriage Candidates
Stardew Valley is turning 10 this February, and the celebrations are starting early. Developer ConcernedApe recently teased the highly anticipated Stardew Valley 1.7 update in an insightful interview with IGN, confirming that two new marriage candidates are officially joining the roster. If you’ve been looking for a new reason to start a fresh farm, this is it.
While the full interview is well worth a read, one specific reveal stood out. Barone (ConcernedApe) hinted at several new additions coming to the beloved cozy title, specifically addressing long-standing fan feedback regarding family life.
Regarding the new content, ConcernedApe shared:
“I’m trying to not reveal too much because I like for it to be a surprise. What I will say… is that with this update, one of the things we’re trying to do is [address] a popular fan request, which has to do with the children—trying to make them a little more interesting.
I’m also going to be adding two more marriage candidates, but I’ll reveal who they are on the anniversary day.”

A Growing List of Romance Options
Currently, the valley offers 12 eligible singles to choose from, evenly split between bachelors and bachelorettes. Beyond the narrative charm of settling down, marriage in Stardew Valley provides significant gameplay advantages; once married, your spouse moves onto the farm, helps with daily chores like watering crops or feeding animals, and occasionally gifts you useful items or cooked meals.
Most importantly, reaching a high enough heart level with a spouse rewards you with a Stardrop, which permanently increases your maximum energy.
You can also unlock special Heart Events that display your spouse’s personality in ways not normally seen in their day to day lives.
With two more candidates joining the lineup in the 1.7 update, the total will soon rise to 14, making the competition for the Farmer’s hand in marriage tougher than ever!
