Breath of the Wild 2 Gets Official Name and Release Date
The Nintendo Direct, held earlier today, was full of a plethora of game announcements. While many of the games were of AA quality, a major announcement ended the show. This major announcement was the reveal of the Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 name and release date. The name of the sequel is The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and it’s releasing May 12, 2023.

News of the new name and release date came in the form of a new trailer. This release date announcement trailer was fairly scarce on actual game details, but it did give a new glimpse at some new additions to the game.
The sequel to Breath of the Wild will feature vertical traversal, allowing players to take to the skies to explore what’s above Hyrule. The sky location is shown off during the trailer. Link leaves a large stone room and runs to the edge of a floating island before diving off of it into the skies below
Alongside the brief glimpse at the sky gameplay, we also got a chance to see new stasis powers, a set of strange wall carvings depict characters and events from Hyrule, floating elevator rocks to islands above, and tree-root climbing. Additionally there is a brief look at a stone bird that Link appears to be able to fly on, allowing for quicker travel in the skies.
Originally, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 was to be released in 2022, but was delayed into 2023. The new release date for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is May 12, 2023 on Nintendo Switch.
