Bluepoint Games may have been acquired by PlayStation Studios

Bluepoint Games, the studio behind the successful Demon’s Souls and Shadow of the Colossus remakes may have been acquired by Sony. News of the acquisition came in the form of a tweet from the PlayStation Japan Twitter account (now removed). This announcement follows the confirmed acquisition of Housemarque by PlayStation earlier today.

The tweet itself was first uncovered by industry insider Nibel on Twitter and ResetEra user named modiz. The deleted tweet features the PlayStation Studios logo alongside the Bluepoint Games logo with the text “welcome to the family.” This announcement is almost identical to the announcement PlayStation Studios made for the Housemarque acquisition.

Bluepoint Games is an American studio located in Austin, Texas. It was formed in 2006 by two members of the Metroid Prime series team. The studio focuses on making remakes and remasters of old titles. Some of the larger titles they have remastered are Shadow of the Colossus, Demon’s Souls, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, and Titanfall. The studio employees roughly 90+ people.

If the acquisition is real it makes sense from a PlayStation perspective. The company has a long running history with Bluepoint Games and could be making the acquisition to produce more remakes. Given the depth of the PlayStation IP catalogue this would make sense to do and would strengthen the available offerings for PlayStation owners.
